the nights on the train lore drop in front of gale is actually one of my favorite peeta moments hijacked or not bc it’s SO petty but somehow that makes it even more in character for him. he knew exactly what he was doing and it’s DELICIOUS

EXACTLY that’s what makes me love it too because it has “if it weren’t for the baby” energy like … that’s Peeta … just the really mean, bitter, “son of the witch,” version of Peeta but still HIM my petty child

like it’s not kind to Katniss at all, but, 1) he is hijacked and 2) she knows it’s not true, and 3) Gale kind of deserves to crash out over it at this point in the book I’m ngl

Imagining a fairy-tale version of The Taming of the Shrew where "Kate the Cursed" is explicitly monstrous. She is the dragon guarding the tower where Bianca is being kept with claws and teeth to please her father. The men around her have always been terrified of her and kept their distance until the monster hunter Petruchio sees her for who she really is. As he marries her and brings her to his home, his actions are to break her curse by reducing her choler. It culminates in her deciding not to kill him during the sun and moon and virgin scene. Instead of brainwashing, her speech at the end is thanking a loving partner for the efforts he took to save her, and Petruchio loves her personality and would only change the things she wants to be free from.

style as a character is fascinating to me because he is simultaneously the character that is the most like his taming parallel while also being nothing like him at all. like when he’s with fadel and “taming” him, that is the most petruchio i’ve ever fucking seen in a modern adaptation. however he doesn’t have any of the same personal parallels to petruchio that makes him feel like petruchio in the same way that bison feels like bianca, fadel feels like katherine, and kant feels like lucentio.

which is interesting because objectively petruchio is like. fucking evil. despite being so much like him in his courting of fadel, style is not like petruchio beyond that and i think that’s honestly the only way they could keep the parallel as close as possible while still making him likable and making us want to root for fadel and style.

also! style is the only one that is technically not just a 1:1 with his original character. he’s petruchio, yes - but he’s also tranio, who is lucentio’s servant/friend. which i think is likely part of what makes him more likable and also so different from petruchio

I wish I had a Shakespeare production company so I could stage that BDSM performance of TAMING OF THE SHREW I want so badly

It would be the absolute BEST way to stage TAMING. Maybe the only way that really works in this day and age?

BDSM is all about theater for 2. Even when nobody's watching you, which is often, you're playing a role that doesn't look the same as normal life.

And TAMING is all about performance! You could keep it at the outermost layer, the framing story of TAMING. Have the whole thing take place inside a BDSM club or something. Heighten the unreality - remind the audience of a show within a show.

Or get more thematic - Kate and Petruchio are both performing all the time. Performing as jerks, trying to be unlovable and scare people away. It would be really powerful to show them both as understanding the performance of the other, and then them joining to make it a performance of 2 against everyone else.

You could use a wide range of BDSM activities, too - everything from light spanking, to a fetish club, to lifestyle BDSM would work!

If you want something done right, do it yourself - but I don't have a theater company, so I can't!

those who liked my "common tybalt w" post may also like to know that i was watching a recording of our taming of the shrew production and about halfway through a lightbulb appeared over my head and i exclaimed "oh, i get it! they matched each other's freak!"
