This is a MAJOR improvement since I last modeled them and, dare I say, my best 3D model to date!! I'm especially proud of the jumping animation lol
I've added a lot of cool stuff to this model so please keep reading if that interests you in any way!!!
(REBLOGS AND COMMENTS ARE VERY APPRECIATED!!!!!!!)
The main thing I wanted to talk about... THE HAIR!!!
It actually consists of three different hair meshes -one right, one back, and one left- that switch between each other depending on the angle of the head (using drivers)!
It used to only work when the head itself was rotated and only up to 180 degrees... but now it works when the head is rotated in any way!!! I just needed to change the drivers to world space lol
(Hence the horror movie scenario above)
I'm a BIG fan of how stylized this is though! It may not be the cleanest solution but it gets the job done lol
Next up... their mouth!
Similar to how I did Protag's back in the second update, it's a duplicate of the face near the reference's mouth that's shrinkwrapped to the head (and controlled by it's own bone). The main difference is I did this BEFORE I made the mouth texture which definitely saves time.
I used a similar method for the hair shine!
Lastly, I wanted to point out the rig! (Something I have not done for a while now that I think about it...) A few of the bones are hidden since they get in the way of the main controls.
The stuff I've added includes:
A bendy bone for the spine (which is surprisingly faster to set up if I know what I'm doing)
A bone to stretch the head (and a switch to turn it off in case I want to rotate the head normally)
Controllers for the end of the bendy bone (shoulders)
Controllers for that and the head (the whole upper body)
Controllers for the start of the bendy bone (hips)
Controllers for that AND the whole upper body (minus the legs)
Controllers for that WHILE including the legs (which is just the root bone I add to every model but shh)
This was also super fun to do -mainly since they're a very cartoony character.
Which also means -that's right- they can DANCE!!!!!!
That's pretty much all I have for today... although! I'll do a quick photo comparison of all the models I did for them because OH MY GOD do they look different.
March 19, 2024... when I was first doing Blockbench.
March 23, 2024... when I was STILL doing Blockbench (though this one is admittedly worse looking)
January 19, 2026... almost two years later. we get to THIS. somehow
It's not just these models because I've tried to model them at least two other times and failed (mainly due to the STUPID hair) but I am SO glad at the progress I've made with them. NEVER STOP PRACTICING!!!!!!!
Whenever I return to this model I'd like to try and model their other outfit... but I will for sure give them more mouths/edit their current ones.
I don't know who I'll model next (or when to be honest) but I think Trixie might be fun. Unlike T20 her hair is fun to do lol
WOW this was longer than I thought. Thank you for reading if you made it down here!!
I mentioned it already but any interactions are super appreciated!!! Especially if you read all of this I'd love to know your thoughts... mostly since I won't know otherwise LMAO
Have been testing some things and FINALLY got a way to get the lego figures into blender :))
Only a rig test atm but I've got some more up to date textures I, acquired that just need to be adjusted to fit the models. I'll also be rigging my own facial system since I DO know how to do that with plenty of custom faces so we'll see how that goes
THEN ohhh the animation fun will begin
Do expect a few animation test posts as I mess around with them (I will take requests if anyone has anything they'd like to see!)
Demo of my first proper rig in Moho! I designed this character off the cuff to test the line boil tools, she feels very oldschool Nickelodeon so I'm keen to animate something with her in that vein soon, maybe in the style of a preschool TV show ident!
CHARACTER RIGGING. KDSFJNLSKDJFHDF AHSOKA !!! The school gave me access to something, mistake number one, mwahahahaha. the second mistake was that it's expensive, and I get it FOR FREE AAAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA
