it had to end this way. we all know it. only you were unaware. you had hope. hope, of course, only makes it hurt all the more. we all knew you would look back, oh love, there’s no other version of the story. and yet, alongside you, we still had hope. we believed in you, even though we knew you couldn’t win. and you believed in yourself till the last moment. it isn’t fair, is it? you didn’t know you were doomed.

it is dark and quiet in the manor tonight and despite the lack of chirruping knights and prancing jesters, the dark is what disquiets you.

it encroaches in the corners of the room, shadowy fingers clinging and crawling along the walls, and the moment when your candles flicker is when you hear it.

an incessant knocking. it echoes in the hallowed halls, rapping and tapping on the walls itself, and each time it KNOCKS on a wooden wall or KNOCKS on the stairs or KNOCKS on the windows, the shadows grow longer.

every KNOCK, KNOCK, KNOCK draws dread into your heart. each one beats in time with the pounding of your pulse in your ears, an incessant banging that draws your attention entirely from the book in your lap.

as the darkness grows, so does the terror beating tracks through your blood. and as the darkness grows, so do the tiniest pinpricks of light in the deepest of the shadows, flickering on and off and on and off and

your heart comes to a full stop when the tiny flickering lights become bigger and bigger and become eyes, innumerable and uncountable and unfathomable

there is a low droning on your ears, a low hum, a soft touch to the back of your neck and

and soon, you will know.

you wake with a start, the sheets tangled around your waist and caught around your feet and you end up in the floor with a THUMP-THUMP-CRASH as the vase next to your bed decides to join you.

there is a KNOCK that chills you to the core until you realize the window has been unlatched in the night, beating a steady rhythm against the wall with the winter wind. there is even snow spilling in onto the carpet.

bad dreams. that's all they are. that's all you can tell yourself as you stand to latch the window.

what does your love taste like?

𝒄𝒊𝒏𝒏𝒂𝒎𝒐𝒏.

every time your lover’s lips meet yours, the warm taste of cinnamon lingers on their mouth. your love is engulfing, comforting, it’s like being wrapped in a thick blanket on a cold morning. it’s that comfort tv show people never get tired of rewatching. it’s that cozy feeling of cuddling in october, with a steaming mug in your hand and the weight of your lover’s head on your shoulder.

you’re a passionate, caring lover. you love with an open heart and you are not scared of doing it. why should love scare you? it’s the best feeling in the world. you crave being loved, you love love. you actually feel like you have too much love to give. did you wait a lot? was it hard to find the right person you could pour your heart out to? did you find that fairytale love you were fantasizing about? i hope you did, child of mine, because your heart is pure and your love is as soft as cinnamon rolls.
