The wolf must die for the lamb’s sweet dream
Pairing: Anders & Solas (gen) Characters: Anders, Solas, Justice Fandom: Dragon Age: Inquisition Archive Warnings: Major Character Death Other Tags: Low Approval Solas, Bad Templars, Justice Positive, Anders Positive Summary: When Anders is brought to the Inquisition in chains, his days are numbered. Though time is short for them, Solas is determined to make sense of him before it is up.
Skyhold’s cells were home to a new prisoner.
They brought him at the crack of dawn, before the sun had risen over the peaks of the eastern mountains. His arrival roused the castle to an early start. Guards quit their posts and kitchen cooks left breakfast simmering over a low flame to bear witness to him. Even the rotunda sat empty. Solas was among the last to join the onlookers. At first he mistook the commotion for a lively spar in the newly-built combat ring, but the din grew steadily louder and more dissonant, until curiosity forced him from his study.
The crowd gathered in the courtyard jeered as the Templar guard escorted their new captive through the fortress, wary of the mounting hostility surrounding them. From its birth, the Inquisition had been an order divided, brought together upon a mountaintop with a song.
They came together now in a different chorus, bleating mindlessly for bloodshed. The air grew heavy with their hate, a thick and oppressive atmosphere Solas moved through like a fog. He sought answers in a world beyond questions, where justice could be memorized like the lyrics to a song.
Conversations ran through the crowd like an electric current. Onlookers cried, “He ought to pay for what he did,” while others asked in worried tones if it was safe to house him here. “What are we to do with him?” the ambassador asked, to which the commander replied, “Keep him alive until the Inquisitor returns to pass judgment upon him.” Then, with a grim face, added, “I had begun to doubt Kirkwall would ever see justice. I’m looking forward to this business being behind us at last.”
Only then had Solas begun to recognize who he looked at.

Sleepless
@ofharshrealms
Three nights sleepless. Each felt as if they grew longer stuck in the thoughts of his mind. Not ONCE did they silence. Anders had tried everything. Tea, and reading, yet, nothing brought him peace. Sitting up from the pillows from which he rested, a hand knitted into the thick strands of his hair. What would he have to do, to finally REST? Pushing himself towards the wall he shared with his neighbor, Anders let her fingers tap against it. Maybe they were awake too.
Today’s cosplay #throwbackthursdsy is to the Handers holiday shoot @sailortrashface & me did last year! 🎄I love season themed Cosplay photos so much! 🎁🐱💖
@sailortrashface as Hawke @lets-become-stories as Anders

Getting a call from his uncle almost worried Anders. They did not keep in contact often as he was a cop and it didn't really work well with Anders' alternative career path. But the tone of his uncle's voice, it alarmed him. Something had happened, and he didn't like the sound of that. They met in a 24/7 diner, Anders waiting in the back booth, watching the ocassional car drive by. @warhardened
The thing about playing / writing Handers is that… clearly both the angst and the instability are integral parts of the charm. Like to me that’s what Handers shipping is about… it’s not about killing templars, it’s not about blaming the chantry (because you should do that anyway regardless of your romantic choices 😤), and it isn’t even really about mage freedom… I mean, don’t get me wrong, my Andersmancing oc does care about that, but it isn’t just because Anders wants it.
What I’m trying to say is that if you like playing the romance that involves being intimate with and loving to and understanding the guy who very clearly needs loads of help working through the multiple issues he has… why settle just for romancing a person like that? Why not yourself play a character that has issues of their own?
And to be clear, “having issues” doesn’t mean you have to be as intense and reactive about everything as Anders is. But there are many, many different ways to be weird, many different ways to ruin your own life! You could totally be the quiet, serious one who is secretly two minutes away from a breakdown underneath it all. And a Hawke like that could be an interesting contrast to someone like Anders who wears all his past wounds on his sleeve but is also deceptively resilient underneath it all. Or a neurotic Hawke who self-sabotages by overthinking everything… also interesting to play as a foil against someone as instinctive and emotionally honest as Anders. The choices are really endless.
All I’m trying to say here is that it’s boring being typecast as the “normal” one in the relationship… and quite frankly, an unattainable standard to live up to. (Just a step away from “savior”, which is like… eww.) And I think Anders actually is capable of being normal about some things, in some situations, and so I feel it doesn’t diminish the tragedy of his overall arc for him to get moments, in a relationship with Hawke, when he’s kinda… the one holding them both together. The way Hawke does for him whenever he’s feeling too overwhelmed to deal.
Besides, why even bother trying to justify the Chantry explosion on moral grounds*, when you could go with the frankly much more interesting narrative where you and your marginally more mentally unwell boyfriend blew up a chantry together because it was easier than getting couples counseling in Thedas? You both brought shittons of baggage to the relationship, and instead of grappling with it behind closed doors and letting your relationship crumple under the weight of the combined issues that were objectively too big for the two of you to successfully navigate on your own… you inadvertently kicked off a continent-wide rebellion and made it everyone else’s problem. What about that isn’t sexy?
* Not saying you couldn’t, merely that trying to is a boring and thankless and vibe-harshing job.
