“So it does match up.” A researcher said, looking over the data samples Rosoline had provided from Astella, “The energy is unusual and seemingly wild, but can be manipulated, as you say Ms Megalo.”
Rosoline kept her arms folded as she mused to herself, looking out the window of the laboratory they were in, seeing a flock of what looked like flaming bats fly over, “Then why am I able to tap into it?” She asked, frowning slightly as she studied the bats.
“Sadly we can only speculate on that.” The researcher said, “By all accounts, a regular person shouldn’t be capable of handling power descended from literal gods.” They added, causing Rosoline to think slightly.
“Honestly, I’ve always wondered if there’s something unique about me too.” She spoke, with Astella glancing over in surprise, “I’ve always had this restlessness to me, this energy that I feel like I’m always needing to burn off. I wonder if it’s connected.”
“D-Do you think you’re connected to this too...?” Astella asked her, with Rosoline giving a slight shrug in response.
“Hard to tell.” The Megalo Princess replied, “Mega’s logs said stuff about Solar, Liquid, Gust and Rock & that the Gust bloodline evolved into mine in someway. Though that was purely speculation on his part.”
“Is it worth us analysing you?” Another researcher asked, with Rosoline giving a small smirk.
“Nah.” She declined, “I’d rather have an air of mystery around myself, makes things more interesting.” She said, unfolding her arms & turning back to the group. “See if you can figure more stuff out with Ast, that’s what matters right now.” She requested, with the researchers giving some small nods.
As time passed, Rosoline paced back & forth to think, musing over her own potential connection to the so-called Elemental Manifestations, before being snapped out of her thoughts with a quake shaking the building, catching Astella off guard & causing her to topple over.
“The heck?!” The Megalo Princess questioned, narrowing her eyes before being pulled to the ground by Mallisia.
“Stay down.” The patrol captain advised, “We can’t have Them see us.” She whispered.
“They? Who?” Rosoline asked, keeping her own voice down.
“Those things outside....?” Astella gulped slightly, the colour draining from her more as Mallisia nodded.
“We’re fortified yes, but They can break it if They try.” She told them, checking to make sure the researchers had already hidden themselves, giving a quick nod of relief.
However, her relief would be shortlived, hearing the glass of the window above them crack slightly, before a small fiery tendril poked a hole through it, slithering through and moving as if looking around, before turning in the trio’s direction, allowing Rosoline to spot what looked like an eye on it.
“This is bad.....!” Mallisia quietly whispered, seeming terrified. In stark contrast, Rosoline threw caution to the window, springing up and kicking the tendril back, only for a small horde of beasts to pour in, seemingly ignoring the researchers and focusing on Astella; a fact the Megalo Princess quickly picked up on.
“They’re targeting Ast!” Rosoline said, fighting them back as best she could, despite the group’s protests that she was just wasting her energy by trying to brawl them. “Look! Quit worrying and act!” She ordered them, “We’ll buy you time, figure something out, secure your guys!” She said, grabbing Astella. “Hold on Ast, we’re going for a run.” She told the crabhuman, with a smirk of adventure on her face.
(Chapter 9, the Black Rock researchers confirm Astella’s power exists, while Rosoline considers if she possesses any of her own, before the facility is attacked by the Fire Monsters that roam the island in the day, seemingly targeting Astella.)
