Moodboard Series "The Omegaverse Stages" | Nesting Warning: This is just my personal version and view of the Omegaverse, along with some elements I wish were different in a less rigid interpretation of this universe—just one of many interpretations that could exist in the multiverse I'm sure! So, yes, keep in mind that this is likely just one of many perspectives out there. I created this mainly for my own entertainment, so feel free to use it as a prompt for a story or whatever you like if you enjoy this version of mine!
Nesting is an instinctual behavior where omegas prepare a safe, cozy space in anticipation of their heat. It’s a time for them to create comfort and security, often surrounding themselves with soft blankets and pillows, ensuring they feel protected during their vulnerable moments.
Symptoms and Behaviors of Nesting:
Increased nesting instinct: A strong need to create a safe and comfortable space.
Collecting soft items: Seeking out blankets, pillows, and other soft materials to build the nest.
Mood swings: Fluctuations in mood, ranging from anxiety to calmness.
Heightened sensitivity: Increased emotional and physical sensitivity, craving comfort.
Desire for solitude: A tendency to isolate or seek out quiet environments.
Preparatory behavior: Organizing and arranging the space to create a cozy atmosphere.
Increased need for closeness: A desire to be near their partner, seeking protection and connection.
Changes in appetite: Increased cravings for comforting or specific foods, often seeking to satisfy emotional and physical needs.
Restlessness: A feeling of being unable to settle down until the nesting is complete.
Protective instincts: A heightened awareness of surroundings and a desire to protect their nesting space.
Dreaming or fantasizing: Engaging in daydreams about future family or the bond with their partner.
During the Nesting phase, both Omegas and Betas may experience a series of unique symptoms and behaviors that reflect their instinct to create a safe and welcoming space. Some of these may include:
Intuitive nesting choices: Omegas may feel drawn to specific colors, scents, or textures that instinctively feel right for their nest, often related to personal memories or emotional connections.
Symbolic items: The incorporation of sentimental objects, such as photos, trinkets, or gifts from their partner, which serve as emotional anchors in their nesting space.
Creating rituals: Establishing small, comforting routines within the nest, such as reading, listening to music, or meditating, to enhance the sense of security.
Communication through touch: Increased desire for physical affection, like cuddling or holding hands, as a way to reinforce the bond with their partner.
Anticipatory behaviors: An intuitive sense of preparing for potential future changes, such as considering long-term commitment or family planning during this nesting phase.
It is important to remember that, although the Nesting and Heat phases may intensify the desire for intimacy, sexual relations are not mandatory during the Nesting period (or in any other period, if they do not want to). In this stage, the search for comfort and emotional security becomes vital for both the Omega and the Beta (even if the Beta experiences it with less intensity). They can manage these needs alone, with the help of hormone suppressants, or with the support of their partners, if they wish so. Moments of shared care and affection are essential for strengthening the bonds between them, and to alleviate the intensity of this phase, both Omegas and Betas can turn to various practices that calm the mind and body, whether alone or with their respective partners.
Alleviating Behaviors During Nesting:
Aromatherapy: Gentle fragrances can help create a relaxing environment. Using calming scents, such as lavender or chamomile, can establish a soothing atmosphere in the nest.
Soothing music: Listening to soft music or ambience sounds to promote relaxation and comfort, contributing to a peaceful atmosphere.
Gentle exercise: Engaging in light physical activity, like short walks, stretching, yoga, or even gentle dancing, can be beneficial for releasing tension and promoting well-being during this more sensitive phase.
Warm baths: Taking warm baths with added essential oils or bath salts to soothe the body and mind. Also utilising relaxing herbs in the bath, could also provide a moment of physical tranquility and can serve as an opportunity for introspection or spiritual reflection, especially for Omegas or Betas who find comfort in their beliefs.
Mindfulness practices: Can be helpful in promoting a mental space of peace, like incorporating meditation or deep-breathing exercises to reduce anxiety and enhance emotional stability in this delicate phase.
Quality time with partner: If they decide to spend this phase with a chosen partner, intimate moments such as cuddling, gentle touch, or sharing personal stories can deepen emotional bonds and provide comfort. Alternatively, if they prefer not to be alone but don’t have a partner, they may opt for public services where an assigned partner can provide emotional support, helping to alleviate stress and ensure they feel safe and cared for during this vulnerable time.
Nourishing foods: Preparing and enjoying wholesome meals can offer both physical and emotional comfort during this phase. These meals might include favorite childhood dishes or foods that evoke a sense of nostalgia and warmth. For example, instead of relying on soups, some might prefer comforting stews, creamy pastas, or other hearty, easy-to-digest meals that promote well-being. These dishes not only nourish the body but also provide emotional support by creating a sense of familiarity and home.
This post about Nesting is just the first in a small series of elements about the Omegaverse that I have been working on and discussing here. Many of these elements obviously stem from classic Omegaverse ideas from books and fanfics I’ve read, and I’ve created something that I wish existed more in the Omegaverse. Some of these elements include the importance of consent, the differences between designations, and the prejudices between classes in the Omegaverse, as well as the notion that sexual relationships must be treated as a matter of life or death in stories deeply troubles me. This concerns me even more because some narratives overlook how this rigid, misogynistic, prejudiced, and patriarchal structure of rules in this world leaves characters vulnerable to all kinds of abuse while they are completely out of control. This troubles me greatly, especially after finally finding narratives that, one way or another, approach this subject differently, showing that there are indeed ways to have an Omegaverse story with A/B/O elements while still allowing for control, consent, and consequences for acts of abuse (these are rare stories, but thankfully they exist!). But, I will discuss these points better in the upcoming posts in this series anyways... Well, if you resonate with this simple version of mine, feel free to use it as inspiration for your stories if you want or whatever. After all, the beuaty of the Omegaverse lies in the diversity of interpretations and experiences we can create together, anyway, right?
