I really did not enjoy Chapter 113 of Thousand Autumns at all...every time a schemer who was born into low status but rose to a high one through their schemes and resents their society dies and has their criticism of the luck-based nature of class and corresponding quality of life disregarded by the protagonist it reaffirms my need to work on my WIP where such a characters is the protag even harder.

Bc like. There's tons of schemers who SQ and the narrative are more or less fine with and those whose backgrounds we know are all th#From noble and/or wealthy families. The one who did objectively worse shit than CG is even the love interest#And also middle-aged. Whereas CG is. 16 when he does the worst thing he does. 15 if MXS is using sui for ages which I'm not sure of but it#Seems possible because she's a history nerd. And 20/21 when he dies.#And also frankly it's not like fine but like. I find it hard to much resent a ~16 year old boy for throwing a man in his 30s under the bus#To save himself.#Actually on second thought the handling of class is pretty similar to the handling of race in it. It's portrayed as fine to be lower class#And/or non-Han so long as you Behave Right but if you don't then you're gonna be treated much worse than the upper-class and/or Han#Characters who behave poorly...#I hope this gets better in Peerless uvu#Mirror mirror on the dash
