Their own choice
Mini comic about the first time Chara decided to talk to Frisk without being asked first, fully their decision, after months of being unable to (my explanation of this dynamic/interpretation is here!)
Also Chara wants to be a forensics doctor, that's why they're in medicine lol
Edit: yes! I meant Forensics, sorry! My first language isn't English and here we say Forense ^^'
Prom panic
They're away from everyone now, but why can't Chara stop crying?
Perhaps they feel guilty that they're robbing Frisk of the experience.
But look at Frisk, they're the one feeling guilty for putting Chara through all that.
They don't deserve each other do they?
Stop they maie me sick :(
Based on this stupid picrew I made
hiiiii Your charisk intrigues me, thanks for drawing them :))
OMG THANK YOU EHEJEHFH This made me so happy (warning I love to yap.)
Usually people draw college Chara as a chill person who gets along with the human souls, but to me, if Chara was traumatized enough by humans to the point of attempting, Chara is traumatized enough to carry that fear and resentment into adulthood. I like to think they developed the rigid open eyed unnatural smile we meet them with as a coping mechanism to hide anything that might make them vulnerable, to the point they don't really control it anymore, their muscles tense up against their will in stressful situations.
Therapy exists but Chara is someone who doesn't really ask for help, do they? I like to think they moved/ran away to an area without that many humans, mostly monster-populated. It's intriguing because just when they think they've got everything under control, it turns out their new and first roommate is a HUMAN? WHAT were the chances, WHY is this happening to them. All their abilities to socialize (in a formal and unsettling way, that's just how they are), they're gone, they can't do this, so they avoid it.
But what happens when the roommate does not want to avoid it? In fact they try to interact (obviously), but even when Chara hits them with smiles that usually get others away, Frisk is chill about it?? Why is this one different, why does nothing work. They don't get angry at Chara spending most of their time alone, they don't laugh at them, they don't seem so cruel. In fact, Frisk acts as everything they do is normal, they don't question anything, they're just as friendly as the first day. Every day. Every time. They don't force them to come out, they don't force them to interact.
Isn't it ironic that Chara will eventually grow to feel safe with Frisk? Isn't it cruel that Frisk is a human? But maybe what they need is to be challenged, to gain strength, to feel safe. Even if the one who manages to heal their soul is someone they thought they could never love at first. Maybe they will manage to survive after all.
Unpredictable
Chara was traumatized as a child, so of course growing up they're gonna untrust humans to the FULLEST
Too bad Frisk is their roommate. Economy forced em.
Too bad Frisk is determined to understand them. It's gonna take a looooong time.
Unconditional
Chara still struggles, but they found someone who won't care if they don't smile, someone who won't shame them for experiencing fear, someone who won't make them want to die. Though isn't it ironic? That "someone" is a human.
(thank my friend @averagetostershipper for wording it similarly, now I'm obsessed with their college versions that don't DIE)
Allow yourself
And allow me to help
Different
Chara sometimes wishes that Frisk was a monster. But not talking about species, they sometimes wish Frisk treated them like dirt. What are they doing? Helping them so much. Why are they challenging their world view? Why are they making them feel loved? They're a human, and humans are evil. Why did they choose to respect them. Did Chara fear and hate humanity so much for nothing all along? Are their experiences really that stupid? It makes them sick. It. Terrifies them. It's scary how they want to melt into a comforting hug after feeling alone for so long. It's scary how Frisk is a human.
