Raleigh talks to Yancy the way Chuck talks to Herc except there's way more bitterness in Chuck. But oh God the parallels.

Yancy being like Raleigh's parental figure in some ways but it being his brother still. He was an important figure in his life, but being siblings allowed for a type of closeness that the father-son dynamic be capable of, okay? Yancy was Raleigh's best friend, his partner in crime. Raleigh was cocky, yes, but never like Chuck. His excitement was lighter and more innocent, kinda childish. Humanity was actually winning the war against the Kaijus, Yancy and Raleigh finally found something they excelled at, they were young, excited, felt invincible.

In comparison, Chuck environment was way more grime. However Chuck had imagined that his ranger days would go... He joined in 2019? He had maybe a year of euphoria and then BAM!! Knifehead. Pilots started to die and jargers got destroyed and kaijus became smarter. Contrary to the Beckets experience that went from bad to good to fucking hell, Chuck went from good to bad to the worst. His fame didn't mean a thing, the program was falling apart. People started losing faith, never mind he was young and talented and his record was insane. And the wall? Absurd.

Yancy helped Raleigh growing up, but Chuck couldn't forgive Herc for saving him and not his mom, for diving to the jaeger job when Chuck needed him the most. Yancy did awful things too, but never failed Raleigh like that. Chuck and Herc didn't have the benefit of being close in age, of being able to go party together for example, to share a tragedy that united them instead of breaking them apart.

Herc lost Chuck when it was finally getting good between them, when they were healing for once. They still got to say goodbye, what Raleigh and Yancy where denied of.

Both Raleigh and Herc with the survivor guilt and the injured arms, with the memory of Yancy and Chuck's last words, their jaegers gone, their family gone, thinking about how some of their stupid decisions lead to it all.

They both probably flinch when they hear someone saying "old man" in a cocky tone.
