call me percy, chaper 2: just a little crush

In her daydream, Percy’s hair is soft between her fingers and she manages to fit her legs on either side of his in the driver’s seat of his car. The steering wheel touches the base of her spine, just above his hands, and his kisses are hot and breathy and he feels so good-
Someone pokes her side. She looks over at Hazel who flicks her wide eyes at the front of the room.
“Miss Chase.” Apparently it’s not the first time Miss Dodds had said her name. “Are you with us?”
“Yes.”
Miss Dodds purses her lips. Annabeth wonders why it is that some people trigger such strong feelings of anger with the smallest expressions.
“Would you care to summarise to the class what I had been saying?”
Alright, Annabeth may not have heard any of what she’d been saying for the last ten minutes, but she knows this play inside out and she’s been listening vaguely to her teacher’s interpretation of it for the past two weeks. So she can make an educated guess.
“You were telling the class that Medea’s actions create a poor role model for women and are inherently a step backwards for feminism.”
The class is dead silent. Annabeth knows she should stop. There’s a vein in her teacher’s forehead which is starting to throb unattractively, a warning sign to stop. But she never has been good at doing what she’s told.
“Which, frankly, reeks of academic self importance and completely ignores the original context of the play. You failed to acknowledge that this play can be viewed as a sympathetic exploration of the disadvantages of being a woman in a predominantly patriarchal society. A concept which we can certainly still identify with today. However, I don't think it's entirely fair to criticise a piece of literature written two and a half thousand years ago for not being progressive enough.”
The vein looks ready to pop. But Annabeth isn't quite done.
“Why not just burn the play in front of the class. It would be more educational at this point.”
