Good Omens fanfic recs that ease the pain. (All complete, canon-compliant)
I am an avid reader and Iāve been combing the floods of new (awesome) things hitting Archive and similar to find what best eases the pain of That Episode. Hereās the best canon-compliant and complete ones that give some soothing to the angst of our angel and demon parting:
**This was a hard decision but I am excluding works in progress since they need time to matureāall these are complete /compliant and can be invested in without fear.**
Jesus, Etc.
An Archive of Our Own, a project of the Organization for Transformative Works
This one had me howling.Ā Crowley runs into a frantic Aziraphale with Jesus at a Barbenheimer premiere who he is frantically keeping busy to prevent the Second Coming.Ā A battle of the wills with pop songs in the Bentley, Taylor Swift, Kenergy, sushi, a nativity play and a magic show are the least of the insanity that comes next.Ā (Kudos for the awesome cameo from Mrs. Sandwich.)
To the Universe
An Archive of Our Own, a project of the Organization for Transformative Works
This one is a 22-chapter, complete, canon-compliant season 3 full arc that can take the edge off for everyone who is internally screaming that we have years to wait to see all this resolve.Ā Really canāt say enough about this one.Ā It tied up every loose end.Ā Certain parts reminded me of Pratchett and the ending had me on the edge of my chair and cheering out loud.Ā (bonus extra in a hilarious treatment of Jesus in Tadfield that has him turning himself into a teen named Dave.) This could have been season 3 in another timeline.
Separate Ways
An Archive of Our Own, a project of the Organization for Transformative Works
A sweet, short little one where Aziraphale has Muriel checking up on a devastated Crowley from the bookshop, and they finally at least talk.Ā No resolution, but it felt so nice to read.Ā
The Second Coming
An Archive of Our Own, a project of the Organization for Transformative Works
One-shot (but around 7000 words in chapter format) that is canon-compliant.Ā Aziraphale āawakensā in the elevator (think ox ribs but sexually) and yeets himself back to earth to roger Crowley six ways from Sunday.Ā Smutty, so donāt read this one aloud to your parents.Ā (naked apology dance reference in here made my eyes fall out.)
Heaven is not fit to house a love
An Archive of Our Own, a project of the Organization for Transformative Works
A sweet little one with a *small* deviation from canon (that seemed ok because they have a good point.) Crowley had never told Aziraphale about the way the angels managed his trial OR about what he saw in the Heavenly files with Muriel.Ā He jams his way into the elevator (telling the Metatron to get the next one) and tells him.
Not for all my Little Words
An Archive of Our Own, a project of the Organization for Transformative Works
An adorable one where Aziraphale, realizing he screwed up, chases Crowley through loudspeakers and other peopleās phones through Europe using famous love quotes until he gets his attention (and some forgiveness.)
Everywhere
An Archive of Our Own, a project of the Organization for Transformative Works
Oh so lovely! A longer one-shot where Azi realizes that management is not what he cracked it up to be (they tell him nothing.) So he saves Crowley instead from a Heavenly asassination attempt. (Maggie, nina and anathema help!)
A Proper Apology
An Archive of Our Own, a project of the Organization for Transformative Works
One where the Angel simply calls over and over until they really talk.Ā (Or imagine the idiots simply just used the phone.)
Cause you like me too much and I like you
An Archive of Our Own, a project of the Organization for Transformative Works
A sweet little one where Aziraphale quietly resigns, has a chat with Gabriel and Beez in the bookshop, and does the apology dance.
An Archive of Our Own, a project of the Organization for Transformative Works
A sweet little daydream Azi has in the elevator about apologizing to Crowley in the Ressurectionist pub Ā before waking up and realizing oh crap he is still in Heaven.
Did I miss any other good ones?Ā Tell me?
Good Omens Fic Rec: What We Make of It (Shotgun Wedding)
The important thing, Crowley tells himself -- the most important thing -- is Adam, his brilliant, creative, empathetic nephew. Being fourteen's hard enough; the kid didn't ask to deal with the weight of the world on top of it. And if taking care of Adam means Crowley has to tough it out at a job he canāt stand, so be it. And if Crowley's job means that Adamās charming English teacher is NOT a romantic possibility, well, that's just how things go. But the occasional drink with Aziraphale proves hard to resist. They frequent the same pub, so who can object to them saying hello? Briefly sharing a table? Perhaps a little conversation? The painful knowledge that it canāt be anything more -- not without somebody getting fired or sued or both -- well, that can't be helped. Until Crowley stumbles onto a terribly reckless idea...

Read it here, fic byĀ charlottemadison
*Minor Spoilers* I was so certain that I had already posted about this one! When I saw I hadn't, well, that just warranted a reread didn't it! This is a very famous fic, so I wouldn't be surprised if you've already read this. But if you haven't, or maybe didn't know if it was worth committing to the length, I'm here to tell you its very much worth your time.
Not only is this an excellent parent story, it's also a fake marriage story! Crowley is a single parent to his nephew Adam who strikes up a friendship with Adam's English teacher Mr. Fell. The problem? The company Crowley works for has a strict rule against dating anyone in the School Industry. You know, it's a tiny bit dramatic, but also one of the cleverer ideas to justify writing a forbidden relationship. Does this happen in real life? I don't know, but the way this is written I fully believe it could! Either way, there's a loophole they can exploit so they can be together, and all it takes is a quick, "I do."
Ugh their relationship is so wonderful here. It's very mature and healthy, the kind of relationships we want to read about because they are just so safe. They're able to talk through their issues and feelings and know they're always going to be supported. The love they have is so heartwarming itās sickening. A lot is told through letters and text messages, which I personally loved. These are different characters from canon, they've both been changed by their human lives and surroundings, but this story just understands who they are deep down. They're not shallow characterizations.
Who this story really gets right is Adam. I full on believe this is the best handling of Adam in any fanfic I've read for Good Omens. A majority of the plot revolves around him being narcoleptic and epileptic. It has tons of amazing things to say about health care, being chronically ill, and being a parent to a child with health issues. But outside of that it understands who Adam is. Someone who is brilliant, creative, a leader, manipulative, arrogant. And how those traits can be both positive and negative for him. He wants to change the world, but has some learning to do along the way. I loved him, and I love how much Crowley loves being a dad. He even remarks on it, that people don't expect men to love being parents. It's nice to read a story of such a devoted guardian.
A really excellent story, it deserves it's popularity! I would say this is largely safe for public. There are a couple explicit scenes tucked in but they are skippable and a small section of a large story. Which by the way, will fly by! This story does NOT feel like 200K words. If you haven't gotten around to this one, I highly suggest you do!

I love it in here - unlike in more popular social media sources I can be fairly sure very few people will read what I write, and no one will care. So I can speak on craziest topics, basically to myself, pretending someone is listening to me. Safe and satisfying.
So, something I wanted to put into words, just for myself.
charlottemadison 's "What we make of it" and "Or be nice" - GO fandom classics, 2 books that hit me hard. Like, you have no idea.
After far too many re-reads i came to a conclusion that, surprisingly, the relationship described in "what we make of it" can't end well, but "or be nice" certainly will. Nothing as valuable as making each other laugh and being ridiculous together.
So, my takeaway for an ideal relationship:
āAngel...ā said Crowley, with a little sigh of resignation, āIām glad you love me. But I hope you know you love an idiot.ā
Aziraphale gave his arm a squeeze. āDarling, I adore you, and I have never been confused on that point.ā
Shotgun Wedding has an update!
(And I do too I suppose)
Iāve been working with @charlottemadison42 to get this amazing book into print form. Shotgun Wedding is going to be renamed What We Make of It and will (soon) be available if you want to order or make a printed book!
You can sign up here to be notified when it's ready!
I have started formatting it for printing, was just waiting until all the edits are now complete. Iāll also redo the cover with the new title, obviously, but hereās a sneak peek:
can't recommend more 'Or Be Nice' by charlottemadison it is such a charming fic, it's enemies-to-lovers, rude-neighbor where Crowley is obnoxious and sometimes also Aziraphale and it's literally one of my favorite AUs right now! charlotte's got them down to a T. It's one of those fics where you can just picture the characters saying the lines and ahhh I love it
Of course!
Or Be Nice by charlottemadison (E)
Crowley and Aziraphale are neighbours. And...it does not go at all well, until it does.
A human AU in which Aziraphale is a bookseller, Crowley is a drummer, and they are both petty disasters in the worst/best way.
+++
āSo whatās your deal?ā asked Crowley. āMy-my-my deal?ā Aziraphale stammered. āIām a bookseller, is my deal.ā āOh,ā they replied, sounding as uninterested as it was possible to sound. āItās just, I couldnāt help overhearing, and --ā Aziraphale swallowed hard. āYou really are an accomplished musician. But I thought -- for after eleven PM -- perhaps we could reach some arrangement?ā āArrangement?ā Aziraphale felt his his smile turning forced. āSuch as, perhaps, playing the drums *before* eleven? Instead of after?ā Crowley stared blankly at him. In fact he stared for so long that Aziraphale briefly wondered if he'd lapsed into ancient Greek again, which he was known to do in bad dreams or during panic attacks.

Is there any fic about azi or crow being a single struggling parent
Oh man so many! Anyone else want to leave some suggestions? Hereās a few that I can think of right now:
I have been working with @charlottemadison42 on formatting her amazing fic Shotgun Wedding, so that jumps to mind immediately. It is so good. Crowley isnāt struggling as a parent, exactly, because heās an amazing guardian for Adam, but he struggles with enough that I need to recommend it first. š Plus itās one of my all time favorites.
It Was Always You by mltrefry is probably a bit more like what youāre looking for in your ask. Crowley and Aziraphale reconnect after years, theyāre both single dads.
Going Overboard by Fyre @amuseoffyre is absolutely amazing. Itās one I downloaded/made a cover for already. Single dad Crowley and memory loss in this fun romcom.
The Stars Walk Backward by Beckers522 is also so good. It takes place in 1926, tutor Aziraphale and (married) dad Crowley. Highly recommend this one, itās really well done.
Barriers, and the Breaking Thereof by Cardinal_Daughter is actually one of the early ones I downloaded and made a cover for, but it wasnāt very good (the cover, not the fic!) so I havenāt posted it here yet. I definitely should though, itās amazing. Single dad Crowley comes into the library with a crying baby and asks Aziraphale for help.
This one is definitely not a traditional parenting fic, because theyāre cats. But it was so sweet and I loved it. Aziraphaleās definitely struggling to take care of his kids. Aristocats' Class and a Street Cat's Style by skimmingthesurface and SylWritesStuff
hi!! i think lost fics post 67 number 3 is the longest night by charlottemadison!
Thank you!
The Longest Night series by charlottemadison (T-E)
The night the Apocalypse doesn't happen, an angel and a demon share a bus bench on the way home to face their fates. This is the story of their evening spun out line by line, all the little moments that carried them through the night they knew might be their last.
The first several works in this series are merely rated T for language, and the relationship can be read as asexual. Later works may ramp up to M and E as the night goes on, so mind the ratings.
