finally got this behemoth of a cross-stitch project framed. this is the good omens cross-stitch pattern by @forineffablereasons! i worked on it from october 2019 until february of 2024, when i threw a party so everyone could watch me finish the very last stitches. someone made a zine for the occasion and we all had a nice drink afterwards, which i feel that i deserved at the end of a project that comprises 122,694 stitches.

i have all sorts of complicated feelings about this project for reasons that i assume are obvious to anyone on the internet. this is why it has taken me over two years to finally frame and display. i intended to order a faux-wood custom frame for it since it's got strange dimensions, but the frame company called me and said they were replacing it with real wood for free since they were out of stock of the material i had initially ordered. i took this as a sign from the universe that it is in fact time for it to stop being folded up on my bookshelf. i love these characters and and poured a lot of work into this, so, as someone on my discord suggested recently, i'm "do[ing] it for sir terry" and acknowledging this phase of my life with compassion and nuance.

The linework and black fill on the Good Omens cross-stitch is complete! (Sharpie for scale; it’s a two-strand stitch on 22-count lugana.)

Last time I posted this image, the linework had been completed going one direction, and then I needed to go back over it going the other direction, plus do the majority of the black fill. It’s been extremely slow work, mostly because I tend to go in short bursts and then not touch it for a while, but now it just needs color fill, except for some fiddly bits around the faces and on the book spines. I’m going to eyeball the colors a little, rather than religiously (HA) follow the pattern.

Crowley reaches for the bookshop handle.

"Presumptuous of you, dear, that you're invited in."

Crowley crowds him against the door. Chest to chest, hands entwined. "Is it?"

(a reckless move, a cautious question.)

The heat of the moment splashes across Aziraphale's cheeks, a smile finding freedom on his mouth.

"Not ever."

It’s done!!

This project took...many months, and 70,000+ stitches! It's 14.5in x 20in (penny shown for scale). Definitely my biggest project, but it's been very useful recently to have something I can stab thousands of times :)

It doesn’t show up well in pictures, but there’s sparkling/metallic thread in their wings, the hour glass, the apple, and the sword!

WIP update! I've been working on this for just under a year, finally getting to move the hoop for the second time!

I'm using etoile threads for the wings and i did not realise how much of a nightmare it would be to stitch over large sections but i love the way it looks!
