sam/dean serial killer au??

This one!!!!

There are so many serial killer AUs for Sam/Dean out there (Howlverse is probably my favorite of all time, palux is one of my favorite writers, aspirational, I love them, sorry this turned into a recommendation), lots of them where Dean is a serial killer (gaialux wrote one of my favorite takes on this, actually), some with both of them are serial killers...but this idea is born out of like, consuming Dexter in high amounts and wanting to add Dexter into my SPN. Smush together the two canons, make Sam the serial killer while Dean is "normal" in this fic (usually, Dean is the serial killer in serial killer AUs, if they're not both serial killers).

SO the premise is that Sam is "Dexter" in the sense that has violent urges to hurt people, and John realizes this and decides to channel that into being THE best hunter he can be (and also blames Azazel for Sam being wired so badly, and probably has bouts of thinking maybe he should kill him before he becomes too evil) . It starts in Dean pov (who is the Deb, in this scenario, if someone has to be the Deb) during season one and follows the vague outline of season one--picking Sam up, Jess's death, getting to know each other again--but things are wrong and slightly off, and Dean eventually figuring out that something is wrong with his brother. There's a lot of parallels between canons, and making John into Harry was really easy, tbh.

It's fun, doing a s1 rewrite, then diverging wildly at certain points. I'm trying to make them noticeably themselves, rather than making Dexter/Deb with different names.

(Sam is 9, Dean is 13)

Dean never liked hunting deer (or quail, or pheasants, or rabbits). He could tell Dad sensed this about him, his own weakness, Dean’s inability to pull the trigger and seal the deal when it came to a living animal. For him, it was easy to hunt a werewolf, take down a ghost, find some kelpie and shred it. Easy to keep it from hurting anyone else at the end of the day.

But he could never take the shot for a deer, white-tail and grazing grass by the woods. He could set the scope, lie in wait for hours with the rifle, his father at his back like a comforting shadow, but he didn’t like shooting one, always avoiding it. Dad told them how important it was to be able to feed themselves—I won’t always be here, he’d say, words that freaked Dean out to his core. He kept a straight face, strong jaw, nodded stiffly, but he didn’t want to think about the day that John was dead, the day he goes out that door and doesn’t come back. I won’t always be here. 

Sam nodded, eyebrows set in a hardline. Sam took to animal hunting better than he took to actual hunting—Dean supposed because it was more normal—normal fathers and sons do this, take their kids on these kinds of bonding rituals. 

They’d walk together in the woods, the two of them side by side, with Dean pulling up the rear—watching their backs, he told himself—but John would lean over, put an arm around Sam, and press in real tight to whisper something in his ear, too low for Dean to hear. 

Watching that made his stomach drop. It wasn’t jealousy in his belly, but something close it—some feeling like they were hiding something from him, locked out.

But John told him not to ask question, so Dean didn’t ask questions.

BTVS season 7 for the Reverse Unpopular Opinion meme

It's a difficult question because the thing about season 7 is that distance makes you more aware of its flaws. And it has plenty, especially because at many points it seems... indecisive, which I would've never said of any of the show's previous seasons, nor about any of Angel's. About every season includes writing choices that make me dubious or even furious, but I always feel I know what they're getting at and for the most part, it lands. I can respect that. Season 7 gets messy, in a bad way, in that regard.

But hey, this post is meant to be about the positive aspects LOL.

I still love Buffy in it just as deeply. That final scene with her is the Buffyverse in a nutshell, to me.

I also love Dawn in it, and her relationship with Buffy, in all its aspects. Dawn threatening Spike is also one of my favourite moments in the show and one of a handful scenes with him I'd say I truly enjoyed this season.

I really like Kennedy. I liked her the first time watching it and I liked her even more the one time I rewatched. I appreciate that she has fight in her, that she doesn't fall in line easily, that she adds tension.

And just like I liked Kennedy, I liked... Wennedy? No, it's not Tillow. It's not meant to be. Frankly, if I had been given a chance to write Willow in another relationship in season 7 myself, I would've jumped at the chance to write Fillow, what with Faith coming back and all. I saw the Vision back in season 3 lol. But I like what Wennedy brought to the table.

I also enjoyed everything pertaining Faith's return, period. Even narrative choices I might've been iffy about worked because Dusku always carried her so well.

In general, although everything else on the Plot front was dubious, and the execution wasn't always perfect, I loved what they did regarding the Slayer mythos.

Robin Wood was neat. Nikki Wood was incredible.

I remember Anya looked damn fine in those flashbacks.

10. Is there a character or ship you'd love to write for, but haven't yet?

Yes, for sure! Both in the sense of "I'd love to write them but I don't think I have the ability" (Albert/Tammy, Augustine/Mercymorn) and in the sense of "I think I could write them but am waiting for the right inspiration/circumstances" (Amanda/Lily). I would love to touched on them a little bit before but I'd love to write more Audrey/Laura and Laura/Cooper too.

14. What makes you happiest? New fic comments, kudos, bookmarks, user subscribers, story subscribers, or Tumblr asks?

Comments! I really need to get better at commenting myself, but comments (and asks too probably?) are my beloved because they remind me of mid-00s fandom and they give me something to remember. I love bookmarks too, especially bookmarks with tags/commentary!

29. How many times do you usually revise your fic/chapter before posting?

I am unfortunately a "revise the same sentence hundreds of times before I move on" writer, lol. I started using LibreOffice recently and it has this feature where it remembers what I'm deleting and will suggest my old phrasing when I delete something and then go to add it back, and I'm like "hdu call me out like this." I'm revising constantly while I'm writing and then I do usually make some little tweaks after posting in a "take one thing off before you leave the house" kind of way if I see a bit where I decide I'm doing Too Much and it doesn't change the structure of the scene.

Blood

Dean curls in on himself, holding his belly and wishing he could feel their baby’s heartbeat instead of his own, sucking in deep breaths through his nose and exhaling through his mouth as he lowers his head, too round to bend over so his head is between his knees, but hunched over enough for the breathing and position to help, his muscles relaxing as his head clears. He settles back into the couch with slow, ginger movements, keeping his mind focused on counting his breaths, focused on his feet on the floor and the couch under him. Dean turns off the television and seeks the wind outside through the quiet, listening for the late night noises of the desert through the thick panes of glass, allowing the focus to lull him into a sense of calm.

When the door appears in an empty space on the wall, time is fading into the wee hours of the morning and Dean has started to doze on the couch, unable to keep his eyes open, but hinges on the door creak and his eyes shoot open, his body jerking upwards. Dean rushes in the direction where Sam’s door appears, alert and angry, but the anger dissipates into a slow sinking worry when he gets a look at his brother, lingering in the door frame, clinging to it for support.

“Hey, Dean,” Sam says, looking back at Dean from the shadows of the early morning gloom with his golden eyes, glowing in the dark. He sounds rough, his voice raspy and throaty, speaking with a low timbre Dean associates with sickness. Blood smears in deep red splashes across his mouth and cheeks, dripping from the corner of his lips where his fangs poke out, his mouth rows of sharp teeth and prominent canines, turning his wincing, apologetic smile ugly. Sam wheezes in a deep, hacking breath. “I made it, like I promised.”

Sam’s knees fold, his large body collapsing in on itself and he almost crumples to the floor, but Dean catches him around the waist, wrapping an arm over his shoulders and heaving Sam against his side, holding him up as Dean pulls him into the apartment, the door closing and disappearing behind them.

plumeria— are you currently working on any creative projects? if so, what kinds?

I am always “trying” to write which sometimes goes better and sometimes not. But I’m actually working on a story that is doing pretty good and I’m really excited about it. I like to alternate between different arcs, time wise (it’s kinda a palette cleanser for me) so now I am back to Bedelia and Hannibal as baby resident doctors. They will be attending a charity dinner (as ones of the best new doctors) and it will give me a chance to explore them in this new (for them then) setting.

Favorite character: mrs beverly crusher!!!!! she is the light of my life!!! my angel my loins!!! she’s SO iconic. she’s intelligent, witty, and isn’t afraid of challenging the status quo. i love everything about her but i’m disappointed she got the short end of the stick when it came to barely being in the movies and how all the beverly-centric episodes either had her with a love interest (smh) or something batshit like fucking sub rosa with the ghost sex.

Second favorite character: data. i have that mfer tattooed on my shoulder!! to me he is quintessentially a face of star trek: the soft android that pines to be human and studies us and makes us consider how silly we really do act.

Least favorite character: probably a common one but pulaski, season 2 is my least favourite and a big reason is her lmao. zero chemistry with anyone, characterisation was all over the place. AND BEVERLY WASN’T THERE!! also can i slide in and just wax about how i don’t understand the wesley crusher hate??? he’s such a sweet and smart boy.

The character I’m most like: god i honestly don’t know someone please tell me

Favorite pairing: picard/crusher ahhh UHH UGH UGHHH!!!!!!!!!! they make me go feral. i’ve shipped this since i was like six years old. the way they balance each other out. THE 20 YEARS OF PINING. the way bev doesn’t care about putting him in his place when their views don’t align because he can be so very strict and stalwart with his own moral code and sometimes it’s not ‘correct’. at the same time like with balancing each other out, how picard loves beverly’s feistiness in comparison to his seriousness. her teasing omg... they have breakfast and dinner together like every day seems like, i want to kill them for not marrying. but at least they’re married with two babies in my rp with mary.

Least favorite pairing: i don’t have one, everyone’s so sweet. well except picard x any woman other than beverly. i swear to god there’s like 10 picard love interest episodes and they’re all snoozefests.

Favorite moment: there are too many to count!!! as a p/c shipper i’m obsessed with the firelight scene in “attached”. in general... i adore “who watches the watchers” where picard talks to a person from a primitive race who’s seeing her planet from space for the first time, and explains how her ancestors would have thought of her now as a god, and how evolution works.

Rating out of 10: 100000!!!!! i obviously grew up with the show. it means so much to my dad & i, he who introduced it to me because it was always in the background when i was babie. the enterprise feels like home, its crew is a family and they’re my family too. so many episodes’ narratives are crazily still applicable and not dated to current issues, for instance “high ground” with terrorism, “the host” with trans/lgbt subtle tones, and i can’t remember the specific one but there’s a few episodes about climate change too. like this is the 80s and they’re still relevant bruh. “on the enterprise, no one is ever alone” 😫✨

Audrey/Laura

Ship It

1. What made you ship it?

Audrey looking at the photo of her and Laura. Even though Audrey never directly articulates what her relationship with Laura was like, in contrast to Bobby and Donna, you can still feel how formative it was for her, and that negative space is so tantalizing.

2. What are your favorite things about the ship?

Despite not calling themselves friends, they exist at this claustrophobic distance to one another where they're still crushed together by their families all the time. They're so close and yet so far away, and I feel like there's a lot of opportunities there for them to see each other and understand each other more than they ever admitted to themselves.

3. Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?

Audrey would have been good for Laura actually. She's openly not interested in a one-dimensional Laura who is solely the neighbourhood sweetheart, and Audrey herself is innocent in a very messy way that also includes elements of cruelty and selfishness and sexual transgression. I think it could have been so good for Laura to have Audrey as a mirror and helped her understand/forgive so much about herself.
