Pretty sure there have been AU’s where Snow goes with Emma to the LWM, but have there been any where it was Charming who went with her and raised her here instead? I think I’d like to read that.
This is a fic written as if Emma was born and raised in Storybrooke by David and Mary Margaret. Emma is in high school and is going on her first date and let's just say David gets a little protective of his baby girl.
“Emma, how was your day?” Her mother asked while her daughter put down her backpack by the stairs like she did every day when she arrived home from school. Emma had just turned fifteen and went to Storybrooke High School. Her mother, Mary Margaret was a third grade teacher at Storybrooke Elementary School. She got off of work thirty minutes earlier than Emma so Mary Margaret was always at home by the time Emma got home.
“It was fine.” Emma said as she went into the kitchen to grab a small snack and a glass of water. “How was your day, mom?” She asked as she sat down across from her mother at the kitchen table while she began to open her granola bar.
“It was good. The kids were excited since it is Friday but that is to be expected.” She said with a smile since she has gotten used to the way the kids act on Fridays. “Do you have a lot of homework this weekend?”
“No, not too much just some math and science and an essay.” Emma said with a shrug.
“Are you going out with your friends tonight?” Mary Margaret asked knowing that Emma had a couple of groups of friends so it was easier to ask her this way than ask about certain friends.
“Umm… Yeah… Well… Kinda,” Emma said shying away from the question not sure how to tell her mom what her plans were for the night. “Blake asked me to go to dinner and a movie with him.” There was a pause. Mary Margaret just looked at her daughter in disbelief and Emma finally said, “If that is okay with you and dad?”
“That’s fine, sweetheart, when is he coming to get you?” Mary Margaret asked her daughter with a smile when her daughter smiled at her response.
“Really mom? Are you sure dad won’t mind?” Emma asked a little worried about what her father would think of her going out on her first real date. He had always told her while she was growing up that she couldn’t date until she was thirty. She had always hoped he was just kidding but now that there was actually the possibility for a date to happen, tonight of all nights, she was worried.
“Your father will be fine. I’ll make sure he isn’t too worried about you.” Mary Margaret assured her daughter. She understood why Emma was worried besides this being her first date she knew her husband would try to be protective of their daughter. They had only been blessed enough to have one child. There was no way he was going to let anything happen to his little girl. “What time is Blake coming to get you?”
“He said 6:30, but he said to call him to let him know what you and dad decided.” Emma said, “So is it safe to go call and tell him yes.”
“Yes, go call him.” Mary Margaret said with an assuring smile. Emma was on the phone with Blake for a while and before Mary Margaret knew it David was home from work. He opened the door and Mary Margaret walked over to him and said, “Hello, Charming,” before she kissed him then asked, “How was the station today?”
“Nothing too exciting happened, so I guess that means it was good.” David said. He had been the sheriff since they moved to town before Emma was born. Mary Margaret had asked how work was to see what kind of mood her husband was in before telling him that their daughter had a date tonight. “Where’s Emma?”
“She’s on the phone.”
“Oh, is she making plans with Claire for tonight?” Charming asked knowing that Claire was one of Emma’s best friends.
“No, she’s not on the phone with Claire. David, you might want to sit down.” David sat and as he did so he looked at his wife with concern in his eyes. “Emma has a,” Mary Margaret took a deep breath before finishing, “date tonight with Blake.”
“What? She isn’t old enough to date!” David said jumping out of the chair and standing up. Emma then walked out of her room. Probably not the best timing on her part, as her father said, “Emma, you aren’t going.”
“Dad, yes I am. Blake is a good guy. I really like him daddy.” She said as she put her arms around his waist and smiled at him. She knew that her smile would work to convince him to let her go. Her smile could melt his heart in a few seconds and he was instantly wrapped around her little finger. He also couldn’t deny how much she reminded him of his wife with how determined she was to get what she wanted. He just smiled at her and shook his head, giving in was the best option at this point. “Thanks, Daddy,” she said squeezing him tighter in her hug until she felt him hugging back. “Alright, I have to go get ready.” She said pulling out of the hug. As she left the room she gave her mom a smile. If it wasn’t for her mom talking to her dad she probably wouldn’t have been able to convince him but since her mom was okay with it that helped get him to agree. She put on a pair of skinny jeans, her favorite pair of boots, a black lacey tank top and a blue jean jacket for warmth. She heard a knock at the door while she was zipping her boots.
David opened the door and said, “You must be Blake?”
“Yes, sir,” he responded nervously. It was his first date, too.
“Come on in and take a seat. Emma will be down in a minute.” David said leading the teenage boy into the family room. There were pictures of Emma as a baby, little girl, and even some more recent ones as well scattered around the room. Blake sat in a chair on one side of the room and David sat in the chair directly across from Blake. He watched as the boy fidgeted then he said, “Tell me about yourself, Blake.”
He shifted nervously then looked David in the eyes which was hard to do since David was almost staring holes into him, “I’m in Emma’s English and history classes. I really do like your daughter, sir. I don’t plan on hurting her, I promise.”
David looked at him for a little while before responding and to his surprise Blake didn’t remove his eye contact that he had kept the whole time he talked to David. David liked that the kid didn’t look away. It showed he was strong and he wasn’t too scared. It also proved he wasn’t lying because people don’t keep eye contact when they are lying. Just one thing he has learned during his time as sheriff. “Okay, I’m glad you don’t plan on hurting my girl.” At that moment Emma came into the room followed by her mother. Mary Margaret had been helping Emma finish her hair when Blake arrived.
She extended a hand to Blake, “Hi Blake, I’m Emma’s mom, Mary Margaret.”
“Nice to meet you ma’am,” Blake said in return taking Mary Margaret’s hand and shaking it. She smiled at him. She was surprised at how much of a gentleman this young man was.
“You two have fun,” she said with a smile.
“Have her back by 11:00,” David said in a tone of authority.
“Yes, sir,” he said extending his hand to shake David’s hand to which David extended his hand.
They were out the door. They walked to Granny’s Diner talking and joking all the way there. They went in and sat down to eat. Ruby came over to take their order and she shot Blake a look. They sat and talked while they waited for their food. When Ruby brought their food to them she gave him another look, basically saying don’t hurt her with her eyes. Blake nodded slightly and Ruby walked away. After they finished eating they walked by the docks before going to the movie.
Back at the house, Mary Margaret was making dinner. David removed himself for a few minutes to a different room in the house and called Leroy. He told him that Emma was out on a date and that he needed him to look after her at the movie. This was to be their little secret. David hung up and went to join Mary Margaret in the kitchen again.
Leroy got to the movie early and sat in the very last row in a corner so he could see the whole theater and the doors so he could watch for Emma to walk in. He saw her walk in and where she and the boy sat. They sat toward the middle of the theater and she hadn’t even noticed Leroy was there.
The movie is almost over and it was already 11:05. David is starting to get nervous. He is sitting on the front porch waiting on that boy to bring his little girl home. “Honey, I’m sure the movie just went longer than they thought. I’m sure she’s fine. She’ll be home any minute.” Mary Margaret said trying to calm David down.
“But they are late and that is all that matters right now.” David said thinking as he played with his sword. 'This boy will be lucky if he ever gets to go on a date with our daughter again.' David thought to himself.
“Okay, I’m going inside.” Mary Margaret went inside because she could see nothing she was going to say was going to get her husband to calm down about Emma being home late. She was inside for about ten minutes before she started to get fidgety. She found her bow and an arrow and started playing with it; getting set to shoot and then putting it back down. She did that for about five minutes playing with the arrow a little bit in between each time she got set and then she looked back outside. She could see the moon reflecting off of Emma’s blonde hair. She let out a sigh of relief then turned to put the bow and arrow away. She hoped David wouldn’t be too angry at their daughter.
As Emma and Blake reached the porch at 11:30, Mary Margaret got back to the window where she had seen Emma walking up the sidewalk. She wanted to make sure David wasn’t going to become too protective. To her surprise it appeared as though he heard Blake out. She must have been right that the movie had taken longer than they had planned. She heard the boy apologize as David walked into the house leaving the two of them on the front porch.
“I had fun tonight, Emma.” Blake said to her with a smile.
“I did, too.” She replied as she wrapped Blake in a hug. He returned her hug.
“Good night, Emma. See you in English on Monday.” Blake walked back out of the yard the way they had come and down the street toward his house. Emma turned around and went inside and found both of her parents sitting on the couch.
“Did you have fun?” Mary Margaret asked smiling at her daughter.
“Yes, mom I did. I’m tired though so I think I’m going to go ahead and go to bed. Good night, mom. Good night, dad.” She said. She gave both of them hugs.
“Good night, Emma,” her father returned.
“We love you, darling,” her mother said.
“I love you guys, too. See you in the morning,” she said as she turned to head to the stairs that lead to her bedroom.
Her parents just sat on the couch in awe of how grown up their baby girl was. They sat there for a little while longer and then went to bed themselves.
