my biggest pet peeve with “personality swap” aus, as demonstrated with celadon and charnice (swap!caffy and swap!chartreuse).
i mean, come on, the point of an au is to do something different with a popular thing, not just make it exactly the same only with different characters in different spots with the exact same personality as the character they switched with. it might as well not even be classified an au at all, it’s literally the exact same thing. so if you’re gonna do a personality swap au, or something relating to a swap au, at least try to put more effort than that. give a little more depth to it. at the end of the day, they’re still the original characters, so it feels just plain wrong to not let them still maintain some of the qualities that make them that character. make it a mix, add some things, change some things. just don’t put a new gloss of paint over it and call it a day.
tl;dr: unpopular opinion but please, for the love of god, don’t make a personality swap au where x swaps with y and x is literally just y in x’s body. and i’m not saying i don’t approve of fanart that does that, we all go at our own pace so don’t get me wrong but. at least try to put some real work into it.
this is really moreso about one super-popular swap au in particular that literally everyone can probably guess what it is but you know how i am with drawing that certain pair of skeletons so fuck it lemme just use my old ocs for this mini-rant
