Charollais roving is finished!
103gm, 497m split over two skeins (the strand broke at a join halfway through skeining).
2ply from a centre pull ball.
Really pleased with the plying, and it matches my skein of Finnish wool

Tour de Fleece Day 2: Charollais
And now we move to France for the Charollais (sheep, not the cattle). It's the secret bonus wool in this breed study set. I haven't spun the wool before, but it's actually in my reference books (Bergs(c)haf isn't listed in either of the breed guides I own).
Fleece and Fiber Sourcebook states that they were bred from Leicester Longwool crossed with the local (Charollais) landrace. Also that the short wool (1.5- 2.5 inches). Thankfully this top a bit longer, I measured 3-4 inches, which matches the description on Paradise and World of Wool's websites as 80 mm. Since the wool isn't part of the breed standard, my thinking is that the length varies quite a bit and the fleeces sent to mills tends to be longer than average for the breed. The wool is quite crimpy, and relatively soft (especially for a meat sheep). It is white with a chalky luster.
This is the softest meat sheep wool I've spun. One reference recommended a fine worsted spin with plenty of twist, so I took it as a challenge. I'm still waiting to see the post finishing length, but I got ~90 yards out of 1/2 ounce.
I doubt it will be a frequent fiber for me, but would spin again. I'm thinking gloves or a sweater.

Le seul tourment qu'on ne puisse pas oublier en se livrant à la boisson, c'est l'envie de pisser. - François Cavanna, Les pensées, 1994.
Small baby project on this emotionally tiring day. 🖤 The wood is Rowan we collected and the yarn is hand spun Border Leicester and Charollais. 🍃
I finished two shawls in the past couple of days. This one is Charollais, by Corinna Ferguson. ( https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/charollais ) I love the way it's turned out. I didn't have quite enough of the yarn, so I made my life complicated and did the edging in intarsia. It's pretty, and something only other knitters will ever notice. Sewing in all those ends will be a nightmare, but it'll give me something to do on the ride across the country to our new home. Hey, @justice-turtle, I'm pretty sure this is one of the yarns I got from you. I hope you like what I made from it.
Spinning of the week:
Charollais roving, bought in April pre prepped.
First experience with this fibre. It's squishy, not crazy fine but still soft. Somewhat slippery on itself. TBC whether it's a winner or not for me.
Finnish roving. 57gm plyed and skeined, approx 300m. It's quite lovely, was very satisfying to spin and to ply. Should be hard wearing, good to weave with but not for any garments against the skin.
Remaining blue merino and silk blend plyed and skeined. Approx 80gm of 2ply at 190m, and a tiny 5gm chain ply of the leftovers. Low-key wish I'd chain plyed the whole thing, but it's done now. Official verdict is 28% silk by weight!
