Summer’s hand hovered over Garrett’s door. She’d fled from the ball - and from him - so quickly that the night almost seemed like a blur. She’d been ignoring her friends ever since, but his words kept coursing through her mind as if on repeat. She closed her eyes and forced her hand to move and knock on the door. Her eyes only opened when the door did and words were flying from her mouth before he could even register that she was standing there. “Did you mean all of those things? Really? The things you said at the ball? That you want me - no - that you want to be with me? That you love me? Did you mean that or did you not. Because if you didn’t I need you to tell me right now and I won’t ever mention it again. But if you did... I need to know if you meant it.”

Summer had been scanning the crowd for about half an hour before she finally spotted Garrett’s face near the bar. She smoothed out her dress before holding her head high and walking straight towards him. Once she’d reached him she put a hand on his shoulder, pushing him around to face her, eyebrows raised. “Seriously?”
