There were few people in life that were exclusively ‘Jay’s friend’. When you got married, there seemed to be this paradigm shift where suddenly all of your friends were couples too - because it made everything easier and less awkward. But when Daniel and Jay met, there was no shaking one from the other, especially when he’s your best man.

And sometimes, you really needed to meet your best man for a drink, all judgement barred. “Seriously, Dan. Sometimes I feel like I could walk in and out of that house, and no one would notice.” He’d sip from the beer he held in his hand, head shaking slightly.

“Hello, my name is Lydia. I would like a divorce please... Hi, I’m Lydia, I’m divorcing my husband... Hi, I’m Lydia Hastings, I would like to get divorced... Do you know anything about divorces?” She closed her eyes, leaning against the steering wheel of her car, “Shit.” This was harder than she thought. He had killed someone. Mark had killed someone. Mark had killed her best friend. Why was divorcing him still hard? “Mia, baby girl, we’ve got this. Don’t worry.” She looked at the baby through her mirror, forcing a smile as though she were old enough to understand. “Shit. We’re late. Okay, great.” Shaking her head she climbed out of the car, starting towards the door of the building before quickly turning around, “Right, you need to come too.” Lydia said while opening the door, quickly moving to take the carrier portion of the carseat out of the car, “Mommy is doing great, don’t worry Mia.” Forcing a smile on her fact she walked into the building, looking around for a moment while she unzipped her coat with one hand, “Um, hello. I’m Lydia, I think I have an appointment with someone.”
