Did you know Facebook Messenger & Instagram direct messaging are merging chat features? 🗣️ Supposedly it will enable shared messaging across the two platforms ↔️ and will integrate other aspects, like video calls, watch together and vanish mode. 📱 I don't use the Messenger app. 📲 I didn’t like the idea of Facebook knowing my whereabouts 24/7 or gleaning information about me based on my phone. I don’t use Facebook on my phone, but I do use it for Instagram. When the messaging features on both platforms merge, I wonder how much more they will know about everyone? 📊 According to a post on The Conversation, the merger means Facebook and Instagram won’t be separate platforms even though they’ll exist as separate apps. And it also means Facebook will have access to a vast amount of personal data from the shared database. And Facebook also plans to integrate WhatsApp! 🔍 Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp are free to use. Insta friends @cathleenlawless and @aeroems have both talked about The Social Dilemma on Netflix. I haven’t seen it but I understand how “free” isn’t free. 💵 We pay for the use of these platforms by giving them information about ourselves based on what we post, what we like, who we interact with and what we say. 😱 The merging of chat across platforms is enough to make many people feel uneasy. I love social media. It’s sad how it’s evolving. 🙁 Would you say goodbye to social media 🤳 because of its predatory practices?
