I think it’s sort of common in the us to eat together? (At least in my area it is, i always thought everyone did too). Admittantly now that we are all older sometimes (no more than once a week) we will do eat-whenever and not together haha
yeah i noticed that christian families usually eat together, and that was the case for my family and the families i grew up around. im guessing it was the same for you too.
what i've noticed is that american non-religious families or families that have a religion that arent focused on community dont make it a priority to eat together bc it's not a part of their culture
the US has become a very individualistic society that is still influenced by its puritan founders so the american mentality tends to be "what do i need to do to get what i want done?” and “how wealthy you are determines your value”. this transfers to what each american does with their time, and more often than not, this can be seen in young people's after-school activities and their parents' jobs because those things directly affect one's success in life.
i think (emphasis on think because someone might jump at me with smth i havent thought of bc ppl are like that on this hellsite) how many activities young ppl are involved in and how much their parents work are in proportion to what each of those people wants in their life. their priorities are on being successful in the world (sports to get into a good school, work more to get more money and get promoted), and that doesn’t usually have to do with maintaining a close relationship with your family.
so then ppl schedule their own activities on their own time because they haven't set aside family time for eating. lol it may seem like im going super srs about a not that important subject but i definitely believe eating together as a family is vital to the health and happiness of a family.
of course, it seems like this usually applies most to white, non-christian (or non-practising christian) families, since the cultural backgrounds of POC like myself tend to shake things up in regards to views on the family and work/extracurricular activities
welp i wrote a lot. didnt plan on that. oh well. posting this anyway bc im too tired to edit >.<
