So I was discussing about dolls in general and ended up in the subject of BARBIE, so 90s right (yes I know Barbie existed way before that but)

A lot of the time Barbie gets slack for dictating to girls how they should be and for giving them body image issues. I do realize these are legitimate problems and not dismissing them of course. What I'm about to say here is my personal interpretation.

But on the other hand think about it. Barbie's not telling girls they must be like her. She's just a woman who enjoys her own hobbies and there's nothing wrong with her hobbies being fashion. She takes part in a variety of activities like sport and even the police force!

She has a diverse range of friends and clearly doesn't discriminate towards them. What's the best part? Her romance interest, Ken, doesn't have a penis. And Barbie doesn't give a crap. She doesn't rely on him like her life depends on him either though, she establishes that she's still the boss while maintaining respect for others. Now that's just badass, and now that I think about it, Barbie has been way ahead of us while we were all stuck thinking she was backwards.

As for body image, I agree the Barbie merchandise should do with more diverse body shapes but skinny-shaming her isn't the way either. She can't help the way she is. I've seen the realistic-portioned Barbie and I'm not opposed to that, I think it's a good idea. On the other hand I always saw barbie as a stylized cartoon. Many cartoon images don't have realistic portions but we don't take issue with that.

I was a full-on tomboy and yet I cherished Barbie. I hated wearing dresses but I was totally chill with Barbie because I realized some girls enjoy it and that's cool. Barbie never made me feel like my body wasn't ideal. Things that are guilty of that are douchebag guys and sometimes the Daily Mail.

Barbie. Oh how underrated you are.

Is it your first time seeing them live?

It was! I only got into Foals around Spring time last year where I realized I was a month too late to see them at the Royal Albert Hall which was a shame, so I didn't want to miss out this time round. They were absolutely wonderful and the only thing is I wish I wasn't so short so that I could get a better view of Yannis (AND THAT I GOT PROPER FRONT ROW SO I MIGHT HAVE HAD A CHANCE TO TOUCH HIM). But it was brilliant, and I hope this isn't my last time seeing them!
