Out rang a gunshot, and pain tore up through Chevy’s leg. Red, bright red, pulsatile from his upper thigh in time with his frenetic heartbeat. It sprayed onto the rocks and grass and concrete, pressurized almost to the defiance of gravity. He gritted his teeth and stumbled down to an area that seemed, to his double vision and ringing ears, covered enough.

And then– because what else was there to do?– he yelled “MEDIC!”

More gunfire, a blast rippled the grass; perhaps, even, a few rays of sunlight broke through the clouds that had gathered in a thick layer across the oppressively humid area. _ Chevy gets shot by a sniper, his Doc is to the rescue.
