If You’re Autistic, Fuck Psychoanalyisis
So psychoanalysis has largely been debunked as bullshit. Really it was something Freud developed to keep his mind occupied during his cocaine binges (yes psychologists and psychiatrists, that is the bedrock on which your industry was built).
But it’s especially dangerous for autistic people, as certain beliefs so ingrained into the public consciousness.
For example. A very common belief is that humans are in total control, and if we’re not doing something it’s simply because we don’t want to. Now if you have that belief, and an autistic person comes to you saying they’re having trouble going to events with their mothers family, you could go into a deep dive about how they hate they’re mother, or someone on her side abused them, or whatever. The reality might just be the mothers family is generally pretty loud and that aggravates their sensory issues.
There’s a thousand examples exactly like this where it’s very easy to make assumptions, ones that even seem right, but are in fact total bullshit.
And another thing, knowing why you do something doesn’t make it magically go away. You still have to stop. So really, even if you find the true reason you’re doing something, it’s often just a useless extra step anyhow.
So don’t get too far into it. A little bit maybe helpful, sure. But don’t spend too much time on it, and don’t take it too seriously.
