So for MR!Mychael, it'd still be firefly even if his personality is completely different.
If OG!Mychael says it's because you're a source of light in what he feels is endless night, MR!Mychael would probably claim you're like an annoying bug that won't stop blinking in the corner of his eye (affectionate??)
As for when he starts calling you that, it'd probably start as a passive-aggressive insult when he's getting sick of your presence. It sounds like it's a term of endearment, but it's spoken with just the right amount of contempt you wonder if he likes you at all haha.
