OK folks, I had the most scathingly brilliant brain flash listening to Hey, Mickey! in the car. Destiel high school AU, but it’s male cheerleader!cas and quarterback!dean.

So Castiel is a math nerd, but one who hit puberty and came out the other side with surprising strength, big biceps, thic thighs, and somehow the perfect body for making amazing basket tosses. After he’s recruited by cheer coach Jody Mills, the female cheerleaders are amazed at how fabulous he makes them look in partner stunts. Head cheerleader April, is like “mine bitches” and practically glues herself to Castiel. The whole school thinks that Castiel and April are a couple/match made in heaven which she plays up. Of course the cheer team, including April herself, knows he’s not that into her, but nobody rocks the boat. Cas goes along with it ‘cause 1) April is a force of nature who is intent on getting the team to nationals her senior year, 2) he’s not interested in anybody else anyway, 3) it is kinda nice to be Mr. Popular and nobody rags on him or any of his nerd friends anymore. April is not dumb enough to try to come between him and his friends, and in fact pretty much guarantees Cas’ loyalty by making sure nobody harasses the math team or theater kids. (She’s scary and effective when she wants to be.) His junior year was everything a high school kid should want, and yet Cas feels like he’s missing something, or someone.

The football team had it’s share of recent glory when Michael (Castiel’s older brother who’s now in college) was quarterback. They do have a fabulous defensive line due to Benny and his crew, but their offense kinda sucks right now. Then they go in shock when their current quarterback, Cole, gets seriously injured when he drinks and drives after an end of school party. Coach Singer has his summer full with helping the kids cope, training camp, and settling in his honorary nephews, who are making the move from Lawrence to Sioux Falls. When John Winchester hit bottom, Bobby made sure he got guardianship of Sam and Dean. John was always into football and made sure Dean had an arm. Dean’s knows he’s good, but he’s not into the football scene because of toxic!dad. Bobby gets it and tells him he doesn’t have to try out, and he can have a part-time summer job at the garage he technically co-owns (but doesn’t have time to run) with Rufus, if he wants, since Dean thinks he might want to be a mechanic. But if he wants to meet some of the guys on the team (Bobby thinks the world of Benny and his crew) and see the summer training camp activities he can.

For Chuck knows why, Dean does come for the facilities tour, and lo and behold, who’s on the other side of the weight room but the cheerleaders. Benny who is chill and well-liked  (totally obsessed with his girlfriend Andrea though) tells Dean about how the football team appreciates the cheerleader eye candy during the summer, and he can introduce Dean around. Dean cannot get over the hot guy with the intense blue eyes, and sexy dark hair who’s doing lunges, and thinks maybe spending his summer in the gym and on the field might not be a bad thing after all.

Dean Winchester thought he was the happiest he could be when he joined the cheerleading team his junior year of high school. After all, it had gotten a lot of press in his small Kansas town, with people rising up on both sides about how he was either a delinquent or a saint. Not gonna lie, he enjoyed the attention. 

And he especially enjoyed the attention he gained in his own school. Yeah, there were the usual bullies, but he’d been dealing with them ever since he came out as bisexual at the start of high school. What he stood to gain was admiration and attraction from girls and guys alike. His muscles looked HUGE in his tight t-shirt and soft pants he wore to every game, which certainly helped.

Yes, all in all he was living the high life...until senior year.

His actions had, apparently, embolden another young man by the name of Castiel to join his cheerleading team. But Cas didn’t just join as support. No, that guy was second in command. He did the same maneuvers as the other female cheerleaders---and worse the same outfit.

Kansas news outlets, with little to report, often took to comparing Dean to Castiel. It was always a competition. And Castiel always won. With his dark hair and brooding blue eyes, he looked like the opposite of what a cheer leader should be, but he made up for it with fantastic feats of bodily contortion. Dean would be impressed, attracted even, if it wasn’t for the fact the jerk was clearly trying to upstage him.

Dean hated it. He instinctively performed worse at games he knew Castiel would be at, biting down grumbled curses at how Castiel was out to get him. His high school teams performed worse in general (obviously Castiel’s distracting body) and it took more and more self-control to keep from throttling the guy on site.

That was, until after the state qualifying football match, when he spotted Castiel chatting it up with the hot cheerleaders from Dean’s team. Dean swore. The blue-eyed jerk might be able to steal his fame and success, but he’d be damned if the guy stole his social standing.

“What the hell do you think you’re doing, Cas?” Dean purposely shortened the name as he pushed the guy out of the way, “You and your stupid skirt and your stupid cheerleading...you ruin everything!”

An awful silence fell, Dean’s teammates beating a hasty retreat, leaving him with a guy who seemed painfully close to tears. Dean began to feel slightly bad about his outburst.

“I...” Castiel sniffled for a moment before meeting Dean’s gaze with strong, albeit teary, blue eyes. “You know why I became a cheerleader? Because I saw you on the news. I thought you were cute, I thought you were incredibly brave and I knew you were out of my league. So I thought, what could possibly give me the chance to impress you? To get to see you, even though you’re a town over?”

Dean hated where this was going, guilt curling in his stomach like rotten milk.

“I became a cheerleader!” the tears were trickling down Castiel’s cheeks, “My brothers always said it would be a mistake to switch from gymnastics to cheerleading. And they were absolutely right.”

With that, Castiel shoved him aside, wiping a firm hand across his face as he raced away in the opposite direction. Dean felt smaller than small. He could feel the eyes of his teammates on him, Castiel’s retort wasn’t exactly quiet, and that only served to make him feel worse. But Castiel was gone before he could do anything to fix it. Not that he knew how.

Dean sulked for over a week, mood darkening further when the news came out that Castiel Novak had quit the team. That was enough to force him out of his self-pity act and, after a few talks with the right people, he managed to track down Castiel’s address.

He was surprised to find that, when not in his cheerleading skirt, Cas wore a nice polo (much nicer than Dean’s worn AC/DC tee) and neatly pressed khakis. The other boy’s expression darkened when he saw Dean at the door. “You come to gloat?”

“Actually...” Dean looked down. He always thought joining the cheerleading squad was brave, but what he was about to do would blow that out of the water. “I came to gave you these.” In one hand, Dean held a bouquet of bluebells, in the other: take out burgers.

Castiel eyed them with suspicion. “Did someone tell you to?”

“I...wanted to,” Dean looked up, “Look, man. I’ve been an ass. And I get it if you never want to forgive me. But the least I can do is say I’m sorry. I’m so sorry. And the burgers are a gesture of friendship. If you want that.”

“And the flowers?” a hint of amusement now tinged Castiel’s voice.

Dean turned dark pink. “...I just think you’re a damn good cheerleader, alright?”

Castiel was full on smiling now as he took the bag of burgers and flowers. “This feels like enough burgers for two...”

Dean smiled hesitantly. “I thought, if you wanted...”

“I have wanted that very much, Dean Winchester.”

Dean Winchester thought he was the happiest he could be when he joined the cheerleading team. Turns out, that didn’t hold a candle to eating burgers on Castiel Novak’s front porch.

Or the subsequent dates that followed.

So @paddykitten and @profoundmeetseternal made cheerleader Cas fic and art for me when I was feeling sad (they’re so great) so for my very first fanfic here is some more cheerleader Cas :) I hope you enjoy it!

Dean and Cas met in their last year of high school when Cas moved to Lawrence. At first Dean hadn’t paid much attention to the new boy until word got out that he was going to try to join the school’s cheerleading team. Cheerleading? Dean thought, Isn’t cheerleading for girls? Nevertheless him, and about half the rest of the school, went to go watch the tryouts.

Once Dean got settled in the stands, all the girls, and one guy, Dean remembered, came out onto the field. They started some easy warm up stretches. Dean looked at each of them, and yeah some were attractive but then his eyes landed on Cas. The boy had shaggy dark brown hair and blue? green? eyes but just as Dean was leaning into get a better look, the crowd started to cheer and his eyes were diverted to the opening of the arena. Lisa, the cheer captain, and the rest of the cheerleaders came out onto the field performing flips and jumps as they got into position. After about five minutes of them pumping the crowd up, the tryouts finally began. Now of course Dean knows next to nothing about actual cheerleading but when it was Cas’ turn to go up he knew he was good, and not just okay good, but like “damn I wanna see him twirl forever” good. 

Two days later it was announced Cas and a few others made the tea. As a celebration for the new additions, a party at Lisa’s house was thrown. All of the football players, including Dean, were invited as well. 

When Dean stepped into Lisa’s house the beat of the music was throbbing in his ears so he made a beeline for the drinks. Dean got into the line for the shots. The cheerleader in front of him in line must’ve been part of the new arrivals because damn she had a fine ass, and the short skirt only made it look better. He coughed to get her attention but when she didn’t turn around he said “hey I’m Dean, the quarterback, are you one of the new cheerleaders?” The deep, crackly voice that answered back startled Dean, “yes I am. I’m Castiel. I just moved here from Chicago”. Oh this is that guy Cas, but why is he wearing a skirt? Then all at once Cas turned around and Dean got a glimpse of those eyes, yup definitely blue, and had the breath knocked right out of him. Things only got worse when Cas gave him a dazzling smile that Dean swears sparkled just like in those gum commercials. “Wanna do some shots together?” Cas asked. All Dean could do was nod and try to conceal his hard on by maneuvering his arms just so over his erection. 

He and Cas got up to the bar and Cas poured each of them five shots. Cas quickly drank the first one down and only choked a bit. God those lips around that glass, imagine how they’d look around something else… Damn it Dean snap out of it. Dean then raced to catch up to Cas who was already on his third.

Once Dean had drowned his last shot, Cas tugged on his hand and dragged him into the living room where he tossed Dean down onto a seat. Dean let out a quiet oomph when Cas gently hopped right onto Dean’s lap with a giggle. “Is this alright?” He asked, while not so subtly grinding lightly on Dean’s erection. “Oh just fine baby” Dean whispered into his ear while thrusting his hips up and into the cleft of Cas’ ass. Cas then turned his head around to give Dean a long kiss while Dean continued to pump his hips. 

Cas broke the kiss and hopped off of Dean and said, “as much as I’d love to continue this,I’m not that type of guy”.

“Well then let’s go out on a date.”

“You want to date me?” 

“Yeah, lets give it a try, one date that’s all I’m asking for.” 

“Alright.”

High school au. Where Cas is a cheerleader and Dean is the quarterback. Cas doesn't want t to be another notch in Dean's bed so he refuses all his flirtations. Dean stops sleeping around and spends his time courting Cas, Castiel not knowing what to do until one day he catches one of the other cheerleaders, Aaron, practically throwing himself at Dean. Cas snaps and marches up to Dean and kisses him. When he's done marking his territory, he lets a stunned Dean know he'll be ready by 8.

The Spirit Stick that's handed out at Cheerleading camp: instead of cursing the dropper with bad luck, it kills that cheerleader during a performance. During Dean's teen years, John sets him up at a school and Dean has to become a male cheerleader to get into cheerleading camp so he can burn the spirit stick

Cas will be the latest victim, from an opposing team (with a blue uniform) and Dean has to burn it before the curse takes effect uwu
