TL;DR Version: The Cheetos Sandwich from @KFC is the first time a fast food restaurant has gotten @Cheetos right. Full Review: This week KFC did a nationwide release of their new Cheetos Sandwich. It’s their standard Crispy Colonel sandwich, but the fried chicken is sitting on a layer of Crunchy Cheetos and it is covered in a Cheetos powder sauce. If you’ve been following my posts for long enough you’ll know Burger King repeatedly disappointed me with their past Cheetos offerings. In those cases Burger King flew too close to the sun by trying to bread their items with Cheetos or combining Cheetos with something that made no sense. KFC kept it simple and succeeded. The sandwich tasted great and when I finished eating it I had the stray Cheetos that fell off in the box to eat as a side item. The sauce wasn’t what I expected, but it was a much better answer to “how do we get the Cheetos flavor onto this thing?” than just covering it in cheese powder and hoping some stays on long enough to be eaten. I was also pleasantly surprised by how well the cheesy taste complimented the fried chicken. It makes me even more interested in those Cheetos turkey recipes I see online every Thanksgiving. I’m not sure what the liquid base of the Cheetos sauce was, but the taste was 100% Cheetos flavor. I also need to applaud KFC for being one of the few fast food companies willing to put nutritional information for their limited time items on their website. It’s downright shameful that companies like @McDonalds hide that information from their customers. The Cheetos Sandwich weighs in at 560 calories, 33g of fat, 42g of carbs, and 25g of protein.
