As an English teacher, can you give a brief explanation of what the hell semi colons are???? I've never seen them in the wild I swear. (The comic is amazing btw and I LOVE your art style)
I CAN DO THAT YES
Alright, so what ARE semicolons (;)? They look like a colon (:). But with a comma (,) on the bottom! That's weird.
The weirder thing is - they are neither commas nor colons.
So what ARE semicolons?
They're fancy periods!
Semicolons link two full sentences - or two clauses which COULD be full sentences, but for whatever reason decided to get married.
You should be using a semicolon in places where you COULD end a sentence with a period, but you don’t want to. You want two sentences together - because they’re continuing the idea, or expanding on something.
They’re also used for some forms of lists, but I’m assuming that’s not really what you were asking about.
When NOT to use a semicolon - when you have an incomplete clause (one or two of them).
Hope that helps! :)
