How to make chemigrams by photographyproject.uk
PHOSPHENES — my special topics: “into the analog” final!
phosphenes: a visual phenomena of bright colors, patterns, and flashes of light that occurs when pressure is applied to the eyes.
this whole class was a very fun and new experience for me. i’ve never worked with film before, much less even really held a film camera in my hands (does a disposable camera even count?). it has been an ongoing goal of mine in every photo class to bring my love of birding into the fine art world, a place where it usually wouldn’t be featured, and i’m ever grateful to my professors for encouraging and allowing me the opportunity to do so — even if they’re a little nervous about how well i could do it in the first place..
to quote my artist statement:
“If birding is a branch of photography dedicated to the ‘perfect moment,’ what does that mean for these prints, which have been made to intentionally obscure that moment?”
all photos above are taken by me, enlarged onto paper then developed using chemigram techniques
From the chemigrams series.
