i just submitted my nsf gfrp like 5 minutes ago. my old pi didnt like the idea and neither did my old grad student mentor and I had such a late start on this whole thing cause it was sooo last minute. and i only learned he didn’t like the idea 2 days ago and so i was like that’s ok my first idea took 2 weeks but this one can take less than 1 day and I spent the passed couple of days just straight up crying into c&en magazines trying to think of another idea and I rethought of a bunch of ideas like really cool ones that people already did like much better than i could and i got very close to a domoic acid responsive hydrogel np for algal blooms that dispensed silver nanoparticles so i told my old grad student mentor and she was like “Aren’t silver nanoparticles toxic to marine life” and obviously i woudlnt have asked her if my idea was good if i didn’t spend 4 hours making it a really good idea and learning about stupid stufff like glutamate receptors anyway but i missed something super obvious like silver nanoparticles r very toxic to marine life anyway then i had a big meltdown and watched the office and submitted my first idea. which no one liked. but the point was i submitted something and bs-ed my personal statement and probably missed some weird technical detail about margins that will get me immediately disqualified but you know what most pregrad school people dont submit nsf proposals and that one was alright. it’s a little bit super complicated and will probably kill u lol but it’s alright for a first attempt and im not mad at myself for trying it out and i can do it again in grad school i really need to work on my apps i havent touched those bc ive been doing this stuff that doesnt matter as much but that’s ok submitting grant proposals is a big part of academia and its good practice now i just gotta get into grad school also i stayed up all night so im tired
