Chenery.
Everyone give it up for our local pirate.
Captains 👍👍 (and admiral)
Alternate versions of the Granby drawing under cut bcs I was having fun with colours
"Dulcia was stretching her wings out to the sun, drinking deep from the running river, great gulps traveling down her throat visibly. She cast her neck back in an ecstatic spray, and Chenery laughed like a boy and pressed his cheek against her foreleg." -Empire of Ivory, Naomi Novik
My favorite characters from the Temeraire books: Captain Chenery (pictured here in his "disreputable pirate" getup) and his Grey Copper, Dulcia!
Granby: I lost, like, 13 pounds.
Chenery: Oh my god, what is your secret?
Granby: ...
Granby: I got my fucking hand chopped off
Because I’m thinking about it, shout out to Chenery for risking hanging to stand by Laurence’s decision.
Like he’s regularly shown as light hearted and cheerful, but Dulcia is a “common” dragon. A lightweight. She would not be valued by Britain as high as many of the other dragons and his safety was far from secure. The sheer amount of courage it probably took for him to stand up in support blows my mind.
Chenery: I’ll do whoever it takes for us to succeed in our mission.
Warren: Don’t you mean “whatever” it takes?
Chenery: Yeah, I’ll do that too.
