it was a lazy sunday afternoon when ni-ki surprised you with a plan he had been secretly working on all week. he knew how much you loved cats. how your phone gallery was 90% feline, and how you always stopped to pet every cat you passed on the street. so when he told you to dress cozy and meet him by the studio, you were already over the moon before the day had even started.
the cat cafe he took you to was tucked away on a quiet street in seoul. from the moment you stepped in, it felt like you were wrapped with the softest blanket. soft music played in the background, the scent of fresh coffee and pastries filled the air, and atleast ten cats laid on the windowsill, curled up in blankets or trotted between the tables.
ni-ki grinned, eyes sparkling as a ragdoll wandered over and plopped onto his feet.
"he likes me." he said, crouching down to scratch the cat's ears. "seems like i'm the new favorite now." you laughed, watching how he bonded with them — gentle, caring.
you ordered drinks, two vanilla iced lattes, even though you already knew he was going to drink out of yours. as you sipped some of your latte, ni-ki pulled his phone out and started taking photos of you and every cat that approached you.
"you look so happy, angel." he said, zooming in on a photo of you hugging a persian. "i'm gonna make this my lockscreen."
at one point, one of the kittens climbed into his hoodie, poking its head out. you nearly cried from laughing too hard. "this one's just like you, baby." you teased. "so chaotic.."
he raised an eyebrow, pretending to be offended. "did you just call me a menace?"
you smiled sweetly, "a cute one!"
the afternoon drifted by peacefully, with your boyfriend resting his head on your shoulder while you both watched a maine coon playing with a toy on the floor. time didn't seem to matter. it was just you, him and the quiet company of soft purring around you. you looked up to say something, but he beat you to it. "you know.." he said softly, fingers playing with the hem of your sleeve, "i wish we could stay like this forever."
you smiled, brushing a strand of hair behind your ear. "i think you like the cats more than me."
he leaned in, just quiet and sure. "not even close."
his hand found yours under the table, his fingers threading between yours gently. his thumb brushed your knuckles in slow circles. "when i see you smile like that.. everything in the world just becomes smaller.."
you didn’t know what to say. you didn’t need to. the way your hand tightened in his, the way he smiled like he already knew how you felt, it was enough.
before you left, he pulled you into a hug in the entryway, chin resting lightly on your shoulder. "let's come back here again.." he murmured, "every time we have the time."
the rain comes softly in the morning. not a storm, just a gentle drizzle that paints ripples into the ocean and mists the windows of your villa in the maldives.
you stretch beneath the covers, expecting sunlight, but instead, you find another form of warmth. jake, still half asleep, his arm lazily wrapped across your waist, his face buried in the pillow next to yours.
"rainy day.." he mumbles into your shoulder, his voice still a bit raspy. "guess we have no choice but to stay in bed all day."
you laugh softly, running your fingers through his hair. "i guess so."
outside, the rain plays a slow rhythm on the wooden roof. inside, everything just feels still, like the world has just stopped completely. jake sits up, pulling you into his lap.
"you're so warm.." he says, nuzzling his nose into your neck. "'my favorite place on earth.."
"i am?"
"mhm.."
his head raises, looking into your eyes to make them meet. without even needing words, he leans in closer.
the kiss is slow and sweet, each movement being delicate, as if you're kissing him for the first time again. his hand cradles your face, thumb caressing your cheekbone as you melt further into him.
when you pull back just a little, your foreheads rest together, and jake whispers, "i wish i could stay like this forever.."
you smile, your heart swelling with love. "me too."
for a while, both of you don't speak, just wrapped up in each other's warmth. the soft sounds of the ocean breeze brushing against the windows and the soft rustling of the palm trees are the only things that filled the silence.
jake's fingers gently trace patterns along your arm, sending little shivers through you. "i'm so lucky i married you."

after years of dating, you and jake are officially happily married, with a beautiful daughter, evie. every spring, your family holds a special tradition of watching the cherry blossoms fully bloomed. on the afternoon you go to the park, you're surrounded by soft pink petals, with your little toddler running around, trying to catch the petals falling onto the ground.
the petals dropped one by one, painting the park in baby pink colours. you watched as evie ran across the path, her arms stretched out, trying to catch the petals in her tiny hands. her giggles filling the air.
"her personality is just like yours.." jake said, his fingers lacing with yours, walking next to you, letting evie in front of you.
you smile, leaning your head onto his shoulder for a moment — letting the whole world just stop. "she gets your eyes, though."
"guess i'm guilty." jake chortled.
every spring, since evie was born, the three of you would come here. the same park; in the heart of seoul. but every year, you still felt that same feeling of peace, even though evie was growing up way too quickly. this year, the blossoms were beautiful as ever.
you sat down on one of the benches, watching jake pick up evie in his arms. she laid her head on his chest, her little fingers picking at his shirt. a cherry blossom landing onto her waves, your hands reaching to softly take it out.
"do you remember the first time we came here? when evie was just born?" jake asked, placing one hand on evie as she snuggled more into jake's chest, her eyes growing heavier by the second.
you nodded, a smile blossoming onto your face. "when our lives changed forever."
jake smiled softly, his free hand brushing a strand of hair from your face. "growing up way too fast.."
you looked down at her, seeing your daughter's eyes already completely shut, her chest rising and slowly falling in jake's embrace. "our precious miracle.." you whispered.
jake squeezed your hand, looking into your eyes. "let's promise to come back here next year, and the next, and the next. forever."
you nodded again, your heart full of love. "always, baby."
as the two (three) of you got up, the cherry blossoms fluttered around you, the world around you just completely paused. it was just you, jake and your daughter in this world. together, until the end.
