On this day in 1829, The Cherokee Phoenix became the first newspaper published by Native Americans in the U.S. and the first published in a Native American language. The first issue was published in English and Cherokee in New Echota, capital of the Cherokee Nation (present-day Georgia). #NativeAmericanHistory
@Regran_ed from @quotabelle - “The most fulfilled people are those who get up every morning and stand for something larger than themselves.” ~ Wilma Mankiller . . Imagining what the first female principal chief of the Cherokee Nation would have thought this morning to awaken to find two Native Women elected to Congress! A first! Congratulations to Sharice Davids, Ho-Chunk Nation / Kansas, and Deb Haaland, Laguna Pueblo / New Mexico, for joining more than 100 women projected to take their places on Capitol Hill. #sheleads #BeautifullySaid by #wilmamankiller #chief #cherokeenation #socialworker #communityorganizer #gritandgrace #quotabelle - #regrann https://www.instagram.com/p/Bp78c2DlAGw/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=ejcwqb23epcg
Here’s the most recent chapter of my novel!
The Uktena - 20. Whispers in the Forest (Ro) (on Wattpad)
Camping out in the woods so that your sister and her roommate can finish a photography assignment is supposed to be fun, right? That is, until a giant snake decides that you're his next meal. Yeah, that kinda puts the original plans on the back burner. The Uktena is a giant horned serpent with a diamond third eye from Cherokee legends. But why is he going after 4 college students who are just wandering through the forest behind their home? Does anyone who goes through that part of the forest pique his attention, or is there something unique about them?
