4. Did you discover any new authors that you love this year?

This year I tended to one book per author, so I'm afraid not. But I look forward to reading more from Shirley Jackson and Umberto Eco.

9. Did you get into any new genres?

Horror and post-apocalyptic.

12. Any books that disappointed you?

A few: The Fran Lebowitz Reader, The Seven Storey Mountain by Thomas Merton, Flights by Olga Tokarczuk, The Power by Naomi Alderman, I Leap of the Wall by Monica Baldwin, Silence in the Age of Noise, Erling Kagge, Black Hole, Charles Burns. There's a couple more but let's stop here. Most of them weren't as good as I thought they would be/didn't live up to the hype around them but still were quite good. The only two I found plain bad were the ones by Baldwin and Kagge.

17. Did any books surprise you with how good they were?

The Name of the Rose by Umberto Eco, which I absolutely loved (and frankly don't understand the people who didn't), We Have Always lived in the Castle by Shirley Jackson, Oryx and Crake by Margaret Atwood, Bosnian Chronicle by Ivo Andrić, Through the Narrow Gate by Karen Armstrong and The Bayeux Tapestry by Carola Hicks.

Exactly one year ago today was the last time we performed the “Kirschgarten” at the Theater in der Josefstadt. Due to the pandemic, the theater closed the next day and the world started to change in the week that followed. It was surreal and still is. I truly miss everyone I shared the stage with and I miss performing. To be a performer without the ability to perform is an absurd state to be in for so long. Luckily, ORF3 filmed an old performance of ours and will air it this Friday at 21:50.
