Херувимская песнь
This is the setting of the Cherubic Hymn by Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky, one of the most moving I have ever heard.
Another masterpiece from Russian Ukrainian composer, Dmitri Bortniansky. The Cherubic Hymn is a staple in the Eastern Orthodox church tradition.
Another rendition of the Cherubic Hymn in a different melody.
Херувимская песнь Знаменный распев монахинии И Денисовой
I have finally learned how to read the titles of some Russian videos. This is the Cherubic Hymn sung in the style of Znamenny Chant-- this means using untrained vocalists. I read that the Znamenny style allows for surprising changes in “key, melody, and timing” (scroll down to the bottom for comments on the text) to surprise the listener into a devotional response.
Cherubic Hymn - Χερουβικός ύμνος - Херувимская песнь
Listen to the oktavist(s) in this hauntingly beautiful chant, particularly that last note. This is sung by the Optina Pustyn Male Choir.
