Developing a Heart for Ministry

One of the best ways to develop a heart for ministry is to jump in and get involved.  Too many times we only hear about various ministries, give to support them, and pray for those involved.  But in order to really understand the ministry and to really develop a heart, you have to get involved.  This year’s 11th grade students (CHFBS Class of 2014) and the 12th grade students (Class of 2013) were given the opportunity to get up close and personal.

Each class spent a weekend working with our sister church, El Sendero de la Cruz in Weslaco, Texas, doing a backyard ministry event with fun and games, building relationships, sharing Bible stories, and presenting the message of the gospel.  On both trips, in December and in March, children accepted Jesus as their personal Savior, and the local church was presented with contacts to continue the ministry in the community.

In addition to the trip, each class also took the following Wednesday to work with another ministry partner, His Bridge Builders, and shared the ministry with a local housing project. The children and teenagers who come to the ministry each week take time to work on their homework, and then the students from CHFBS share the stories and gospel message.

During the event last week, CHFBS students saw the spiritual nature of the work.  One of our 11th grade boys shared the Easter story and then took time to visit with one of the teenage boys from the community.  The spiritual battle began!  Even though the message was shared in a very simple nature, the young man still had questions and could not accept the simplicity of what was being shared.  The 11th grader pleaded with him and kept sharing.  His heart was heavy as we left because the young man was not willing to accept Christ as his Savior.

We know the seed of the gospel was planted and God will not let His Word return void.  We are also reminded of Romans 10: 14 – 15:  “How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? As it is written: ‘How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!’”  We are thankful we have the opportunity to send our students to the “front lines” and support them as they go.

Congratulations to the Castle Hills First Baptist School Varsity Swim team.

The team competed in the TAPPS Regional Meet in Division 3 on January 30.  The girls’ team placed 2nd overall and is going to State in their two events. 

2nd place - 200 medley relay and 3rd place 200 freestyle relay.

Individual results:

Sydney Cooper - 1st place 100 butterfly and 1st place 100 individual medley

McKenna Roberts - 2nd place 50 freestyle and 4th place 100 breaststroke

Both girls advance to the State competition in their events!

Dallas O'Connell - 9th place 50 freestyle

Chaerin Kwon - 5th place 100 backstroke

We are waiting for the final roster to see if they advance to the State meet.

Boys division - Michael Friemel - 9th place 100 breaststroke
