Drop + Chiari

Chiari drops a thing, silver blade known as Tsukikami or ‘Moon God’. 

The item description is as followed:

A sliverlight blade of unknown origin, possessed an immeasurable light that has not a single day dulled. Honed under starlight, it calls to world, singing to the one who would need it most to banish the darkness.

Found deep within a moon drenched cave, enshrined in a twisted, blackened cherry tree, it held captive a dark and twisted force which threatened to swallow the world. Now it rests in your hands, waiting for you to raise it’s blade and slay the darkness it once imprisoned.

And fun fact for Chiari

While Chiari was on a tirade against her island’s reigning emperor, she was a very savage sea pirate. One of the things she did SPECIFICALLY was target ships of slaves/children that were going to be brought into the Empire for unsavoury purposes [like child soldiers].

Excellent question!

Her brand of villainy is more insidious, very quiet but has incredibly far-reaching implications. To put it bluntly, her villainy stems from a willingness to orchestrate events, dictate the lives of others, and knowing but simply allowing terrible acts to occur. But the way she does it all is so subtle. You really have to analyze her actions and motivations to see if for yourself. The best way I can illustrate this is the following statement:

She is a nearly omnipotent clairvoyant.

To dive into things a little deeper, I need to establish a few things about Chiari so that her actions make sense narratively and can effectively contextualize how subtly terrible a person she is. I hope these examples suffice ;w;

To begin the definition, Chiari has, and always will, try to guise her actions as morally good, for the betterment of all instead over the few. With this mentality she is able to brush away the ‘small’ harms she incurs due to her actions or lack of action. 

Chiari is a woman who brought down an entire Empire almost single-handed only to re-instate herself as the primary power in the region (though she refuses to use the title ‘Empress’, instead referring to herself as ‘The Leader of the Mizuki Clan’ to distance herself from the previous Empire she fought against).

She, functionally, established her own Empire and Hierarchy where she appointed families to positions of power based on how useful they were to her during the war.

Chiari orchestrated the violent end of Kotone’s life at the hands of her matesprit all because she barred Kotone [who had pledged her loyalty to Chiari] from ever speaking about her involvement in the war. That action alone was left for Kotone’s matesprit to draw his own conclusions and accuse Kotone of ruining his entire life.

Chiari’s actions lead to her staking the lives of the entire island all because of the ‘future’ she predicted. This lead to her subjuggating herself, and her people in Mizuki, to a life of isolation for HUNDREDS OF YEARS all so that she could bide time to avoid completing a ‘pact’ she made with a Horrorterror (which was made to stop them from being massacred by Kotone’s possessed matesprit).

She proceeded to spend the next several hundred sweeps planning to undo her biggest mistake. Manipulating people and ruining countless lives in order to achieve her perfect ‘end goal’ (aka freeing Mizuki, dying, not living with the consequences of her actions).

Her indirect actions lead to an entire village vilifying a young boy and his entire lineage, pushing several of his descendants to go bat-shit insane and perpetuate fears of that  bloodline JUST so that the youngest would be pushed to leave the Isle and only to return when everything else had been set up.

She’s literally staking the lives of hundred of THOUSANDS of people on a gamble by ruining CHILDRENS LIVES. And then expecting said grown-up children to fix all her problems for her.

She purposefully vilified another child [Itachi], pitting them against her half-blood descendant [Hisato] by denying Itachi every single thing he was trying to work for [ESPECIALLY his ancestor’s seat on the council. It was given to Hisato]. This was all so that Itachi would become a key factor in setting off the plot that would lead to her ‘end game’.

She PURPOSEFULLY ignored BLATANT ABUSE of a CHILD in order to use it as a means to groom Hisato into becoming the ‘perfect’ guardian to her future heir [another key point she needed to make in order for things to go smoothly].

Not to mention all the stress that Hisato was put under by her [she literally took him out of the care of his lusus and into her own to try and fashion him into a loyal and unquestioningly obedient person who held Chiari above all else...and it worked).

There’s A LOT MORE. But just know this.

Chiari knew everything that was going to happen. She could have stopped it at any time. She chose not to. Because in her eyes, the only thing that mattered was that she was working towards the ‘greater good’ which was, arguably, preventing the end of the world which she KIND OF FUCKING CAUSED.

The worst part is, she will never have to face the consequences of her actions. She gets to die. And when she does, she saddles all her bullshit mistakes on the next person. She leaves them on the VERGE OF A CIVIL WAR.

Chiari is not a good person either. She's deeply flawed despite trying to do what's best for everyone. She has to compromise a lot of things for her people but that still doesn't excuse her actions in regards to those of her lineage.
