Way way back when June was still a cipher agent, she was deployed on a mission to Voss to figure out what happened the day the Empire first tried to invade the planet. There, she met Kai-Lan and after a series of dramatic events, they became friends and have been in touch since. (As a matter of fact, Kai-Lan watches over June’s kids while she is away!)
