Does it give a pinch of flavor which makes the dish unique from the others? Also, they sometimes focus the food to shoot that mouth watering arrow to the watchers. It's like opening a canned sardine but what is inside is a beer battered fish fillet. Lastly, it activates one's creativity and resourcefulness to bake a new dish. For example, in a Del Monte Tomato Sauce commercial, turn an ordinary personal sized fish into a family size saucy fish. Or my sister, with leftover marshmallows and a pak of choco plunged made a choco smores flakes.
I believe that every cooking tutorials gives a mouth watering person at the end. This is one of the reasons why I love cooking shows.
