I want you to know this is one of the sweetest offers anyone has ever made me.

Here goes!
1. Which fictional universe would you most like to visit for a short (say 2 weeks) trip?
If it is two weeks relative earth time then Doctor Who because I could adventure forEVER in two weeks because time travel.
If it is two weeks relative my perception then it depends on whether any effects of this two week trip last once I get back to my universe. If they do: then a fictional universe where human augmentation and functional immortality is relatively safely achievable and green energy that can be brought back already exists. Become immortal and stop global warming all in one go.
If I don't get to keep the effects of the trip that doesn't exist in this universe then probably I'd go to Hogwarts because I have so many questions.
2. Which celebrity would you most like to have as a best friend?
THIS IS ACTUALLY REALLY DIFFICULT. Um um um. Emma Thompson? Jessica Williams? Daniel Radcliffe? Jordan Gavaris? PATRICK STEWART? ANTHONY MACKIE? Laverne Cox??? Nicole Beharie??!???!? Janelle Monae? Osric Chau? And of course the unbelievably terrific markruffalo???? OH NO NIEL DEGRASSE TYSON?
/lays down on ground despondently
I want to be all of their best friend
3. If you had the power to bring any one extinct species back to life, which would you choose?
If I really had this power I would obviously do a lot of research on ecosystems and losses and gains first but off the top of my head I'd bring back the Passenger Pigeon. They used to be ubiquitous and now they don't exist and that makes me sad.
Alternatively the Deinonychus to recreate Jurassic Park because that totally ended well, right? I think I remember that ending well.
4. Name a few (however you choose to define a few) songs you’ve really been enjoying lately. Not necessarily your all-time favorites, just your current jams.
"Dance Apocalyptic" and "We Were Rock and Roll" from Janelle Monae's Electric Lady. "Call Your Girlfriend" by Robyn. A bunch of Dixie Chicks hits.
5. Rec a fic or five (or some other number that seems right) you’ve enjoyed recently!
I have not read a lot of fic recently. Been listening to audio books and podcasts, mostly.
Though thank you for asking this because it made me remember to look back on one of my favourite fics, The Death of Narcissa Black: A Potion, find out it's no longer online, and snag an illicit PDF of it before it becomes to obscure to have. If you haven't read that one (the watercolor painting picture book) let me know and I will send it to you because it's so so so so powerful and amazing.
6. If budget and your current sewing/crafting skills were no issue, what character would you most like to cosplay?
Katie and I have talked before about putting together a four-person EVERY CHARACTER IN DOCTOR WHO FROM 2005-2008 quick-change cosplay (so like, the costumes change from one character to the next) and even once sat down and figured out which characters would change into who and how you could do some of the transformations if you wanted to do like a "The RTD era in 4 minutes with 4 actors" sketch or something so I'd probably do that.
7. If the Doctor showed up in the TARDIS and offered to take you one trip anywhere in time and space, where would you ask to go?
Again, somewhere where immortality is relatively achievable and I can grab and green energy solution. If the Doctor objects to my non-specifics and also intention to screw with the timeline (for a good cause!), then I'd definitely choose to go to the future, and probably to another planet as different and mind-blowingly revelatory and insight-giving as he or the TARDIS can think of.
8. What do you typically have for breakfast?
Pop tarts. I'm usually running out the door. If I have time to make something it's usually eggs and toast. I also love cereal but I eat that any time of day.
9. If you got to make one amendment to the Constitution (or the foundational law of your country if you’re not from the US), what would you change?
Some kind of Fair Elections Amendment that overrides Citizen's United, sets up a limited and reasonable at-least-semi-public budget for candidates to eliminate fundraising concerns, and replaces first-past-the-post voting with something like The Alternative Vote. OH AND GET RID OF THE ELECTORAL COLLEGE.
I can't think of a way to work prison reform into that off the top of my head but I also want to do that.
10. What’s your favorite place to be outdoors?
The shade.
If there is a pond or small lake with some shade that is ideal. Something with frogs.
11. Are you wearing socks right now? If so, what color/pattern?
SADLY NO.
This is something I deeply dislike about living in SoCal. Growing up I had the most fabulous sock collection. I was well known in high school and early college for my socks with monkeys and cartoon characters and variously delightful things on them. And I still LOVE socks! They are so comfortable and there is something about wearing socks that feels so safe, like a blanket or a hug.
But Los Angeles is so deeply hot that I almost never wear them, as I wear sandals whenever possible, and business shoes that would be inappropriate for socks when I need more professional footwear.
I do have some freaking cure Cookie Monster socks, though.
OKAY MY TURN TO ASK QUESTIONS.
1. If you wanted to woo me, what pickup line would you use?
2. What's your favourite phone app (or, if you haven't got a smart phone, computer program) that isn't a web browser, email, or social media?
3. What news story or historical fact or sciencey thing do you think needs to be given more attention?
4. What's the biggest thing (game/show/book/website) you've ever wasted more than 10 hours on entirely of your own volition only to come out from your trance, realize suddenly and all at once what you've done, that you didn't even really like it, and you'll never touch it again? (PLEASE TELL ME THIS DOESN'T ONLY HAPPEN TO ME. I STILL REMEMBER GAIA ONLINE AND THOSE THREE DAYS AS SOME KIND OF MIND CONTROL I DON'T UNDERSTAND)
5. Bees?
6. You get to change or erase one major event in World History. What do you choose and how do you change it?
7. You are a pokemon now. What pokemon are you? You have to answer this even if you know nothing about pokemon.
8. Any podcasts, audio books, or audio dramas that you'd recommend?
9. YOU ARE NOW A PONY FROM MY LITTLE PONY (classic or new). What do you look like? What's your name? Pegasus, Unicorn, Earth Pony, Alicorn, Breezy, or something else? You can even use a pony maker (1) (2) (3) THIS IS, AGAIN, BETTER IF YOU DON'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT MY LITTLE PONY.
10. I'm Aries. Write my horoscope. I assume you know it. You seem as much an expert as anyone.
11. Sort one or all or any selection of the following into a Hogwarts House: Stephen Colbert's TV Persona from the Colbert Report Sam Winchester Nintendo, Playstation, Xbox Your pets Abbie Mills and Ichabod Crane The cast of Bob's Burgers Cecil Palmer, Carlos the Scientist, and anyone from Night Vale
You are absolutely not obligated to answer anything if you are tagged. It's for fun and no pressure and I think I'm supposed to tag a certain number of people? But I don't care and I'm not going to count.

i am pretty sure if we met in person we would be like super best friends.
I know, right? I have thought this for a very long time because you are a very cool cat.
chickwithmonkey said: do it anyway. it will grow back/change color eventually. sometimes a big hair change is something to focus on/think about outside the depression. and if nothing else it gives you something to do for an hour or so.
I actually can't because of a stupid scheduling conflict. I'm probably going to be running out of the salon with wet hair as it is, and I have just enough sense to know I shouldn't ask for something drastic on limited time.
But the last time I got a major hair change (blunt bangs), I was also super stressed out and depressed, and that worked out!
chickwithmonkey replied to your post: I wish my sister would stop asking me ...
free babysitting and a gender reveal party? ugh, parents are the WORST.
Seriously, I don't think I'll ever understand why people do these things. P.S. I hope any part of that post didn't make you mad. :)
chickwithmonkey replied to your post:What if I did an unofficial commentary track? I...
i would do that with you but i know nothing about sailor moon, does that make it better or worse?
I think that would make it better! The only thing I worry is that if you're watching it for the first time while doing commentary if that would distract you too much so you don't actually get to watch, but that's more a question of your enjoyment.
You should know the anime is very much a product of its time, and so the animation is dated and there's a lot of filler episodes. I was thinking "The most fun would be to do something with someone who's never seen it before!" but I'd only want that if you thought you would have fun. I don't want to make anyone watch something they won't like.
If you do really want to though you can message me and we can try to work out some kind of logistics to figure out what the easiest way would be or if there's a way we can make it work.
chickwithmonkey replied to your post: So my family, in so many words, told me to lose...
*hugs* that suuuuucks.
Thank you. The people you care about can be shitty sometimes.

i read it once ages ago, and vowed not to read again until it was complete. when will that be?
I have no idea. It's currently at over 500,000 words and 87 chapters. I don't know if LessWrong plans on finishing it up after just one school year, in which case we're in April, in going all seven years, or in ignoring schoolyears entirely because since when does life schedule itself around your study schedule.
I've been doing some minor poking around to try to find out if anyone does know, but I'm not finding anything.
