I wanted to do a warmup for a request since I haven’t really drawn anything for a bit but it very quickly spiraled. Take this thing of a Chidi with an alt outfit and hair but redesign(?) of her tail and horns. Rambling under the cut
Her horns are stubby when they first appear but they sharpen and grow out into season five. They grow pretty rapidly as she is somewhat of a ‘late bloomer’ due to actively repressing them for much of the show. After the last couple episodes + finale of season 4 when they first are teased then make a full appearance, it’s a point that they’re growing out REALLY fast and probably going to be at their full length a little earlier than expected. Her tail I wanted to make more uniform in terms of color but also make it a little more draconic than like a whale’s, which is what I was initially going for.
As for the outfit, I was just sort of.. messing around, then solidified a concept as I went. I wanted to put her in something she would reasonably wear but also something more formal and mature as opposed to her wearing her dad’s too big (sort of) clothing, something that’s more close-fitted and actually HERS. I like the idea of Chidi becoming way more comfortable with her scales and more ‘monstrous’ features and it reflecting in the fact she no longer wears gloves or covers her legs fully.
The big poofy sleeves and chest part are more subtle nods to Nigerian dresses, while also for the sleeves leaning into a more princess design without actually putting her in a full dress. It’s kinda me messing around with the idea of Chidi having a middle point between a more ‘human’ look and full beast, where she’s noticeably bigger and has full dragon legs and claws, so she would need clothing specially made to compensate for that. The armored knee pads and spiked shoes are just a fun touch. She has earned big shoes.
