How to Help Your Special Needs Child With a Doctor’s Visit?

Taking a child with special needs to a pediatrician is a challenging task for many parents. Unlike normal kids, children with special needs can get anxious, scared, or even uncontrollable if they are taken to unfamiliar places, like a pediatric clinic. In this article, we will discuss at length how a visit to a special needs pediatrician should be approached.

I just wanted to share that I know at times how hard it can be to navigate through life as a mom, especially when you are a mother to a child with special needs. My youngest daughter Claire has special needs, so that made (let’s be honest parents) an already semi-stressful vacation so much worse. Some tips I can share from my own personal experience is know what triggers your child then plan accordingly. Claire cannot tell me why she’s upset; she will just start having a tantrum. To try and prevent this I took her to the bathroom frequently, had snacks available at all times, drinks, a stroller, and a blanket (for comfort). The day we went to Epcot she cried the whole day. We dined at the Coral Reef and she just couldn’t calm herself down. I wrapped her in her blanket, put her in the stroller, and rocked it until she fell asleep. We had a reservation at Akershus later that day, and usually they do not allow strollers, but they let us bring it in because I explained the situation to them. At the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boitique Claire had another meltdown. This time it was in the changing room, and the staff was so nice and accommodating. They checked often to make sure we were ok, and told me to take as much time as we needed. When Claire calmed down she met her Fairy Godmother Vanessa, and had an amazing time. At times I am scared to do things with Claire because I don’t know how she will react. At Disney it is really stressful, but the cast members are so amazing and take some of that pressure off of me. I want to give Claire as many experiences as I can, and I am so happy that I have enjoy Disney World with her. Si cantik berbaju merah ini namanya Yellma, salah satu siswi berkebutuhan khusus di sekolah. Usia kronologis Yellma adalah 7 tahun, namun usia mentalnya 3 tahun. Yellma ini satu-satunya murid yang panggil aku dengan sebutan "mama" 😂😂😂 ... tapi sekarang udah mulai dibiasakan untuk panggil aku "ibu", seneng banget dia manja-manjaan sama bu gurunya. Hobbynya Yellma minta digendong, pernah suatu ketika dia tidur di pangkuan aku (berasa jadi emaknya beneran 😅😅😅). Hmmm kalau orang bilang bahagia itu sederhana, ya sesederhana liat senyuman Yellma dan murid-murid lainnya di sekolah... cukup rasanya bikin aku bahagia banget setiap hari. ☺☺☺ *N.B.
