college!namjoon + “Why didn’t you call me?”
“Why didn’t you call me?”
“Because you’re mad at me.”
“I’m not mad at you,” He sighs. “Just upset.”
“It’s the same thing,” You frown before you try to use a plastic fork to scratch that insatiable itch you keep feeling. You groan before you give up. Your plaster cast making a loud thunk sound as you set it down on the table.
“It’s not the same,” He mumbles, taking the plastic fork away from you. “But forget that. Why’d I have to hear from Hoseok of all people about this?” He questions, gesturing to your whole body.
You’re in a wheelchair. One broken leg, a broken arm and bruised ribs. Not to mention the large cut on the side of your head. Namjoon almost crumpled onto the ground when you opened the door for him because who hurt you and who was he going have to hurt in return?
“Because I knew you’d overreact and also like I said, you’re mad at me.”
“For the last time, I’m not mad at you,” He huffs. “Now stop changing the topic and tell me what happened.”
“I fell down some steps... okay, more like I was accidentally pushed down them but that’s the key word here, accidentally,” You emphasize, extra loud because you know Namjoon and you know that look in his eyes. He was on the verge of going out on a solo rampage just to find the poor boy who had tripped on his laces and had unfortunately given you that unfateful shove.
“Who did it? What did they look like?”
He’s already pacing up and down the room and you let out a groan.
“It was an accident, okay? That’s all there is to it so, sit down.”
“Fine,” He grumbles, taking a seat right by you.
There’s that look in his eyes. You could never quite decipher what it meant but then again Namjoon was an incredibly tough person to read. Like this whole thing where he’s angry at you... you don’t even understand why! Okay, fine, you admit that maybe you’re not as good as you thought you were at picking out girls for him, but they genuinely seemed like his type. You’re just being a nice friend. You don’t understand why he’s all mad at you.
“I’m sorry,” You murmur. “I mean I still don’t really think I did anything wrong, but I’m sorry. Can you just stop being mad at me now?”
“I’m upset, Y/N. Upset,” He snaps, frustrated. “Upset, not mad.”
“Okay, then can you stop being upset with me?” You frown. “I was just trying to help. It’s not like I picked out girls you had nothing in common with... they were really nice and cute and if you’d just give one of them a chance you’d—”
“That’s the thing,” He grumbles. “I never asked for your help.”
“Oh, so you constantly whining about not having a girl to take out on a date on, or not having anyone to watch a movie with was not a silent cry for help?” You snort, laughing. “Come on Namjoon, you were clearly asking for my help.”
“No, you daft idiot,” He sighs. “That was me trying to hint to you that I want to take you out on a date.”
He’s sat there, head buried in his hands because god, this was an absolute disaster.
“Ohh... Well, why didn’t you just say that?”
“Because, I’m just dumb like that,” He mumbles. “Plus, I was afraid you were going to say no.”
“So and then your strategy was you were going to stay ‘upset’ with me until I figured out it was me that you wanted to go out on a date with?”
“W-well, yes, no, not really...” He murmurs. “I didn’t really have a strategy, okay? I was just sad that you kept trying to set me up with other girls when I... when I just wanted it to be you.”
“I’m not a mind reader, Namjoon. You have to you know, actually say things for me to know that that’s what you want.”
“I wasn’t expecting you to read my mind,” He scoffs. “I dropped hints, obvious ones might I add.”
“Such as what? Wouldn’t it be nice to go to dinner here someday? Wouldn’t it be cool to watch this movie?” You snort. “How are they in anyway obvious?”
“Who else could I be referencing in those questions?”
“Joon... literally anyone. Literally, anybody on the face of this planet.”
“False,” He huffs. “You have to read into the context. It’s obviously a question aimed at just you.”
“You’re— you’re impossible,” You sigh.
There’s a silence that settles between the two of you, Namjoon nervously shuffling his feet from where he was sat as he debates asking his next question.
“Wait, s-so does this mean you won’t mind uhh... going out on a date with me?”
“4/10 for effort, but yes, you big oaf.”
“Just to be clear, that’s a yes, you’ll go out with me, right?”
“Namjoon,” You sigh. “You’re giving me a headache.”
“Okay, but it’s a yes you’ll go out with me... right?” He questions again. Just to be 100% sure, you know?
“Yes, I will go out with you. Y-E-S. Yes,” You snap. “Okay? Yes. Do you understand? Are you clear?”
“Y-yes,” He smiles. “So, where would you like to go?”
“I don’t know you tell me. You’re the one with all the big plans.”
He smiles giddily because yes, you’re right he does. He’s been dying to take you out to dinner at that Peruvian place you’ve been dying to try and oh, you’ve talked about riding bikes around the arboretum for forever now, so the two of you could do that too. And there was also that lake that’s an hour away that you’ve been wanting to visit, ah and not to mention that modern art exhibition you wanted to catch and also the—
“What? You’re suddenly all out of ideas now?” You ask and Namjoon realizes belatedly that he’s been thinking in silence all this time.
“Huh? No... no, it’s just... I have one more question,” He grins nervously before continuing. “Are you only agreeing to one date or several?”
