So... Let’s talk about my webcomic, Chimeran Legends.

Starting with book 1.

I remember nearing the end of college, wanting to start a project of my own. Wanting something to call entirely mine. With the confines of class requirements being released, I was finally feeling the freedom to explore my own interests in my art. I was also feeling very nervous...

The job market was never great, let’s be real. I was being prepared to scramble to find work and pay off my debts, and not feeling confident I would actually be good enough anywhere. I was growing up, and not ready to face the responsibilities that came with it.

The first book of Chimeran Legends encompassed a lot of those fears. Florent, not feeling good enough even in his greatest skill in magic and sword play to land a job and feel useful, and Lori, about to be handed a great responsibility, and not feeling like her life leading up to that point actually prepared her for any of it.

Lori, eager to take things into her own hands, decides to run off and learn her own way. And she takes Florent with her, recognizing his skill and more importantly his gentleness should be recognized in a field where soft spoken kindness is seen as a weakness.

Over the course of book 1, the two connect with each other, as well as with the people they meet along their journey of self discovery… And soon they find they might have a connection to each other through someone they haven’t seen in a very very long time.

Book one is about growing up to face responsibilities you are not ready for, and facing the fear of things going wrong.

Now… Let’s talk about book 2.

Imagine it’s late 2017… You just finished your play through of Persona 5, the politics of the world around you have you really nervous, and you just learned about some rich guy developing brain chips that are supposedly supposed to help people with health issues, but have had the idea floated that they could be used to inject ads directly into people’s dreams.

Propaganda pitting people against each-other is on the rise, your loved ones think your worries are over reactions, and you have a deep and agonizing concern that people are going to be complacent in what is happening around them until it’s much too late…

This is where I was when I started making the concepts for book two of Chimeran Legends. I was scared, and needed a fictional outlet where I could confine that fear, and have heroes of different lands and beliefs come together to stop the forces that wish to tear their lives from them.

Book 2 is not only about surviving change you have no control over, but coming together to take back the pieces of you that have been stolen away by a force you can not face alone.

It’s heavy, it’s sad, but…. It’s also hopeful.

It is also admittedly difficult to make in the current state of things. A lot of us have had our lives threatened this year, and while mind control brain chips did not come to pass, there have definitely been some technological advances that have done more harm than good taking the forefront of our lives…

But as it is in this fictional story, I still think we are stronger together.

Now then… Will I do a book 3?

That depends on whether or not I can finish book 2 and not be burnt to a crisp by the end of it. I do know, however, that if I do a book 3, I’d very much want the theme to be about healing.

I want it to be about making the world better for for future generations and healing the hurt in your heart. To be kinder, if you want to be, despite it all.

Book three, if I get there, would probably be my final send off for the Chimeran Legends webcomic.

But whether or not I get there, remains to be seen.

Chimeran Legends is not perfect. Like anything human made it is full of bumps that I maybe wish I never made, will try to buff out or work around, or leave be and hope that the good outweighs the rough.

But it is mine. It is human. And all I can hope for it is that some people find joy and comfort in it as it has done for me.

Yes. One of the two main characters is openly gay, and the other is questioning. There are also side characters who are gay, and characters who use they/them pronouns. There are characters who are trans, but this is never really brought up as far as I have planned.

The Amazing Digital Circus x Chimeran Legends - Circus Characters as Chimerans

Hope y'all don't mind me being a little cringe on main for a bit here, but I wanted to give myself a challenge and try and design what Amazing Digital Circus characters would look like as characters from my webcomic (Chimeran Legends). This was definitely a fun challenge for myself! My favorite design is probably Zooble's, and the most difficult to design was definitely Caine.

Putting design rambles under the cut! For some context, in the world of my comic, all the characters are a people known as "Chimerans" who have the appearance of various animals (or mashups of various animals), despite not actually being said animals. Because of that, I look to animals and mythology for design inspiration. Pomni is based off a peacock jumping spider, because the "arachnid" chimerans in the comic all have horns and usually have eye spot markings on their cheeks, so I thought that would be cute for her hat and blush. Ragatha is a ragdoll cat! Pretty straightforward. Jax I contemplated between being based on a regular rabbit, or the moth/butterfly folk in my comic called Papillonans. The Papillonans are kind of messed up rabbits, and Jax is a pretty messed up rabbit himself, so I went with that as the more fun option. He's based off a indian lily moth because (he eats clothes) they look like abstractions, and well.... Jax isn't doing too well in that regard is he? Zooble is the most Chimera-y chimeran here, being a mash up of a lot of stuff. I liked translating their head shape the most.

Gangle is loosely based off a ribbon snake, though I leaned way more into the illusion of mimicking her actual design.

Kinger is based off King Fishers. :> Because it's vaguely punny.

Caine's design draws from the "Combanians" from my webcomic, who primarily look like bees and ants. He's not based off any specific bee, I just thought making him a bee would have been what he would have wanted. :')

Ribbit is a frog...

Kaufmo was interesting. I almost went with a puffin but it looked wrong. So I tried a duck because ducks are also kinda funny. It ended up cute so I went with it.

Scratch is a dog........

Queenie also gets to be a Papillonan but she is a butterfly based one. I wanted to pick a gold color butterfly for reference since Kinger's butterfly was gold, and landed on fritillary butterflies. <3 They're really lovely and some of them do look like they glow. And that's it! Hope you enjoyed me being a little cringe on main. uwu;
