The Surprise II Haymitch & Effie
He hated the taste of liquor, but at least it helped him forget. He winced as he swallowed it, wiping his mouth with the back of his hand as he lay on the couch. He hadn't seen or heard anything from Effie for close to 3 years now and it had sent him straight back to drinking. He'd tried and he'd tried but she was always out of his reach. Letters he sent were returned to him with notes from the mail service saying the address no longer existed and the only number he had for her took him to a dead line. He'd assumed her apartment had been destroyed in the Capitol bombings, so he was surprised when he found the block still standing on the one trip to the Capitol he'd forced himself to make a year ago. He was in love with her. He'd realised that as their relationship went from sex to something more during their time in 13. Hell, he'd loved her for a damn long time and he still did. And that was what was killing him. As they'd bid goodbye on the steps of the Presidential palace almost 3 years ago, he could tell something was wrong. Something he couldn't put his finger on. But his mind had forced him to put it down to the fact they were parting and he let it go, telling her not to be a stranger before they parted ways. And that was the last time he'd seen her. He heard the knock on the door on that summers day and he assumed it was either Katniss or Peeta trying to drag him out to get some fresh air. He wrenched the door open and was about to tell them to fuck off, but was stopped when he saw her...Effie Trinket...stood right in front of him. "I thought you were dead..."He whispered, already finding himself lost in those blue eyes he'd fallen in love with. He noticed nothing but those in that moment.
