Rose City Comic Con was a lot of fun! On Saturday, @tundra-tiger and I got to wear our Dungeon Meshi cosplays, and we met a lot of kind-hearted, delightful people. It was my first time making and wearing liquid latex prosthetics, but thanks to a friend's support, everything turned out alright. I also drew some coin bugs onto chocolate coins to hand out; miraculously, they didn't melt despite the 80+ degree heat.

@tundra-tiger is Senshi; if anyone recognizes the Marcille and Falin cosplayers, please let me know so I can tag them!

After more than a month of working on it, my Viktor cosplay is finally done! This is probably the most technically-challenging cosplay I've done to date -- I had to learn, among other things, welding, batik dyeing, pattern drafting, and patchwork, along with using EVA foam. This is also the hardest that I've wrestled with my perfectionism in cosplay, and I have nothing but gratitude for the people who supported me throughout the process and my self-doubt.

Since I wasn't able to get a good full-body picture, I'll post close-ups of the crutch and leg brace below; I also made some vials of "shimmer" for my friend, who will be cosplaying Silco, to hand out at Rose City Comic Con this weekend.

If anyone would be interested to see the process of making any part of this cosplay, let me know! I tried to be more diligent than I usually am about taking work-in-progress pictures.

What do you do when a winter storm has you stuck inside for multiple days? Do you catch up on grading and get ahead on lesson-planning, like a responsible person? Or do you mock up a few costume pieces for a future cosplay, do a make-up test, and make baozi?

I forgot how long it takes to apply and remove crepe wool, so I inadvertently had a Witch Hat Atelier Kitchen moment.

Rose City Comic Con was last weekend; between moving and starting a new job, I wasn't able to finish my original idea for Friday's costume, so I ended up throwing together a Shlabethany cosplay (courtesy of Goodwill and the Dollar Tree). I ended up adding an open white button-up, since it was cold and I do not have the confidence to wear a bikini top in public, and I didn't have time to glue on artificial eyelashes, but this cosplay was still fun to do. I might revisit it when I have more time.

I know I’m more than a week past the final Dracula Daily e-mail, but last weekend, I finally had some time to try another Dracula closet cosplay.  Since I cosplayed Jonathan at the start of the novel, I thought it would be fun to revisit him at the end of the story...but unfortunately, the white wig I have is nowhere close to the original hairstyle from my first closet cosplay, and the closest thing I had to a kukri knife was my Cutco squash knife.  Ah, well.  It was still fun to play around with these photos.

I finally got around to touching up the pictures from Day 3 of Rose City Comic Con. @tundra-tiger and I decided to go as memes, and we had a lot of fun! I just wish I could apologize to all of the people I inconvenienced with my massive window.

For those who are curious, notes about the window construction are listed under the cut.

The window was made with 2"x .25" wood trim pieces that were nailed into a frame made of .5" square dowels. A 3'x4' piece of plexiglass was glued to the inside of the frame. I used silicone Rescue Tape to make the black dividing lines, and I made handles on the inside of the window using packing tape, so it wouldn't be visible. The text bubble is painted cardboard, and it is attached to the frame with Command Velcro strips (so I can remove the text bubble for transportation).

Honestly, most of my construction decisions on this stemmed from my desire to reuse this as an actual picture frame (I have a 3'x4' poster that is currently tacked to my living room wall with pushpins), so I wanted to use materials that would be easy to remove.

Day 2 of Rose City Comic Con! I have wanted to cosplay Wylan ever since I first read Six of Crows -- I am drawn to character arcs that involve discovering one's own self-worth, and I was excited to read about someone who plays the same instruments I do. I had originally used a darker blue fabric for the vest, but it didn't seem quite right, so I tried again with a lighter blue jacquard fabric. I may also need to find different blue colored contacts -- they didn't show up clearly in person or on camera!

I didn't end up with any pictures from the convention itself on Saturday, but my friend was kind enough to take this photo for me in her apartment.

Last week, I was finally able to finish my とつくにの少女 (The Girl from the Other Side) cosplay; @linkhecometotown was kind enough to help with photography.  I’m very grateful that my apartment is just a short walk from an open field and alder forest.

Thank you to everyone who left encouraging comments in the tags on my WIP posts -- this has definitely been the most challenging cosplay I’ve done, and I struggled a lot with self-doubt, but your kind words kept me going.
