you know the thing about ChiShie is that Shiena only has feeling toward Chitaru in one continuity and Chitaru doesn't return those feelings there so it's in this strange quarter-canon state. or half-canon and also not canon. schrodinger's ship. yeah.

A sound from her phone startles her awake at an absurd hour of the night. The poison remaining in her system puts her under a wave of nausea once her eyes open, but at this point, weeks into her treatment without yet a full recovery, she’s used to battling it, and it leaves by the time her glasses are on.

It’s Otoya, who had sent her a picture that was taken with such dim lighting she can hardly make out the shapes in it. Shiena is sure that it was only taken only minutes ago, with a very weak flash. The accompanying caption is clear, though: "found this while on the run. don’t look too closely if you’re not feeling good".

A frown falls on Shiena’s face at the message. Otoya was never this serious in her texts. She wouldn’t put it past someone like her to try a prank past midnight, though, and that’s the guess she decides to keep in mind.

Shrugging her concerns off, she zooms into the picture, and her insides knot themselves up in an instant.

It’s a gravestone, and she regrets looking, but her eyes are faster than her mind so she reads the name engraved on it before she can even think to stop herself. 

"Namatame Chitaru".

The ghost of the needle Hitsugi shot her with stings her chest and brings with it a pain like her organs had turned numb. It feels like a whole minute after staring at it that she tells herself harshly to get a grip, because this isn’t the time to be feeling—

She messages Otoya back and hopes it distracts her. "why are you showing me this?"

A response appears within a minute. "i heard you liked her, so i thought you should know"

The phone casing creaks with how hard Shiena grips it, but she takes a deep breath, swallows, and forces one last reply before nearly slamming it back down onto the table.

"it was just a tiny crush. nothing to fuss over."

And then she tries to convince herself that it’s for the best that she know now. Nip the problem at the bud, as they say.

It takes until morning and long after.

what do you think of chishie

I have a lot of thoughts about ChiShie but first let me tell you that back when all we had were the wee beginnings of the RomiJuli arc and Haruki still hadn’t been expelled in the manga, I was struck with the inspiration to try to write a ChiShie fic wherein Shiena calls the hopeless actress Chitaru for private rehearsals and teaches her how to find the hotness that they so sought. I was the primordial ChiShie shipper.

Of course since then I had already begun my descent to OtoShie hell so I make more OtoShie things than ChiShie things. Also that rehearsal fic had a problem in that I didn’t really know how to write Shiena teaching someone to be hot.

Aaanyway enough about my shortcomings. Now ChiShie, for me, is a much healthier and more functional ship than OtoShie and ChitaHitsu (manga verson) combined. I’m not sure what was in the original speech bubbles of the manga, but there’s something going around that kinda implies that Chitaru seems to at least perform better with Shiena around and Shiena was (fatally) infatuated with the Romeo she made so there’s evidence there.

I’m the kind of person who (usually cough cough) ships things based on whether or not the characters would be better off that way. With ChiShie, Chitaru seems to get pushed to do better at the things she does (maybe possibly perhaps), and Shiena hasn’t completely slipped off into the ‘cold-blooded killer’ mindset that Hitsugi or Otoya already have so Chitaru could anchor her to conventional morals (not to mention BULLY DEFENSE). With ChitaHitsu you’ve got people dying because Hitsugi is 800% possessive, and with OtoShie you’re once again putting Shiena at risk of death so I think it’s clear enough which one works better.

TL;DR: I’ve been shipping it since the beginning of time because it’s good for the two fluffs to keep their distance from crazy killers.
