There's a line in Chocky (John Wyndham, 1963) in which the titular alien makes an observation about "humanity's primitive fixation on the wheel," or words to that effect.
I think there's something in that, although not in the way meant in the story. Specifically, I think we make too many things circular. How often have you dropped something and seen it roll away? I find this especially egregious in the cases of bottle caps and pills.
It bugs me.
