AA Fic (and Art!) Recs: Pess edition!
Pess's origin story comes from that famous interview with game director Takumi about his own personal character head cannons for Miles. It's the same interview where Takumi imagines that Mitsurugi thinks Naruhodō is pretty 'cute.' Takumi doesn't specifically mention a Borzoi but a 'large dog... with frills.' Borzoi's are a *perfect* fit because they, like Miles Edgeworth, are living contradictions! Have you seen pictures of Borzois? They are so lanky and elegant, but kinda goofy! You just want to boop them on their cute noses and cuddle.
I love fics that are tagged with 'Pess' as a character for many reasons, including that Pess is a wonderful vehicle to humanize our favourite demon prosecutor. He can let his guard down around her and be his true self. In the following fics, we get to see things from Miles' view, and some from Pess'. And in many of these, Pess is a Narumitsu shipper too, as she often plays 'wing man, girl, puppy in a lot of these.
Anyways, the following list of recommendations is a bit of a dog's breakfast in the best of ways: we got some long fics, some drabbles, a lot of ficlets and WOO! for the first time, ART! In 'My Mind Still Fears' we are introduced to what feels like (to me) a 'Pess-is-Gregory-reincarnate-theory?' au, and in Tell the World I'm Coming (Home), we are given many moments to fan over and appreciate. Right from the start you will get walloped in the feels and that's ok. Miles returns to his family home after 16 years, and Gumshoe, Franziska and yes, Pess are there to support him. Beautiful and funny and touching and like the rest of HopeStoryTeller's excellent Jack-o'-Lanterns in July series, highly recommended.

Sorry, I know I've shared this one before but it is just TOO GOOD not to share again: This is one of those fics I find myself returning to again and again. It just makes me smile and my only complaint is that it is too short. Featuring a very loveable drunk Miles and our favourite responsible caretaker Phoenix with a bonus Pess with delicate kidneys!

I can't have a Pess-themed list without including Kindred. One of the first Ace Attorney fan fics I've ever read, this fic will charm you in so many ways. It's a Pess lore origin story fic, it's a Miles fic, its a *Case Fic* and yes, there is Narumitsu in it too.
