Brainstorm with me! Chocobos in Founders Era is going great, I've got about four chapters total so far. But I'm really scratching my head trying to come up with some sort of deal or trade the Uchiha can offer the Caelums to keep in contact, because they're Very paranoid about bloodline thieves and Noctis is just out here like "I honestly could not give less of a shit" about it. So they want SOME contact to the ranch (without kidnapping the Caelum Clan Head, which will surely go wrong, not that they know just HOW BADLY that will go for them if they did try) but just. The chocobros are too self-sufficient at this point tbh.
The Uchiha can't supply any of the stuff they *do* need - to take care of the chocobos. Chocobos spend the majority of the year foraging most of their diet. They only need specific greens in the winter and the ranch is established and has got merchant contracts for that already. They need attention and care when nesting, but they don't need that much attention. Any staff they might need is filled by townsfolk who love the new birds becoming the town mascots. (And the Uchiha probably wouldn't go for that anyways)
I always hc the Uchiha as specializing in pretty much any and all trades involving fire- armor, weapons, pottery, glass, jewelry, etcetera. But that's just not useful for a chocobo ranch. Maybe some small groups of weavers and other crafters.
I mean, of the merchant contracts the ranch DOES have, they could definitely sabotage them and go "that's so sucks. Do you want to contract us instead" but also it's rude to sabotage family! And while the Caelums firmly deny it the Uchiha have just fully accepted this odd civilian branch of the family. So no subverting their supplies allowed
At this rate the Uchiha are just going to have to invest resources into sending their own shinobi to the ranch just to spy on the Caelums because there's nothing I can think of that they can offer to them for it.
Also, Tajima might be about to have a very difficult letter war with Ignis trying to get Noctis to agree to allow him to formally declare Caelums as family. For their own protection. He's sweating bullets over such a close relation a: not being shinobi and thus 'defenseless' and b: refusing to move to the clan or even host Uchiha shinobi for protection. The least you can do is accept political protection of the Uchiha bame. Fucking please.
Ignis is having a grand old time with this, BTW. He's missed this kind of bullshit. Good luck Tajima; Lucian Court had 2000 years to build up their drama and intrigue you can't hit any kind of doublespeak or manipulation Ignis didn't already knew about by the time he was ten.
