Yeah he learned it from Bro. He has never actually interacted with Dirk. That was phrased poorly.
I do think Bro and Dirk do share that tendency though, to the extent that Bro is developed as a character? (The guardians are almost more like caricatures, tbh.) Not the pointless heroics for Bro and Dirk as much as the attempting to be the hero/ be in control at the expense of everyone else. Consider: Bro apparently attempting to trigger the Scratch without warning anyone or allowing them to construct ways to prevent themselves from being completely overwritten.
I think the pointlessness comes in with Dave more (although his acts aren't always pointless) because he's trying to mimic this grandiose heroism but he doesn't have the same issues and desires as Dirk, so it gets weirdly skewed. Like 'this is what he would do so this is what I should do but I don't really know why'.
